50-56" Plasma; Which Should I buy?

I am looking for a

* 50-56" HDTV (Not 3DTV, maybe interested if 2D pics are better than normal 2D TV's)
* Highly preferable; Plasma Screen (Movies/Sports/Children's TV Channel)
* Cash price range limit; up to £2,000 //£2,500 with a loan

Which is the BEST HDTV in the market that I should purchase, today.

Would you say that plasma is a lot better for large screen tv's "50 than LCD's due to their fast response time and colors. The kids do watch a lot of childrens channels on SKY with logo on the corners. Does the burn in still occur in the latest plasma screen?

I am seriously considering Panasonic brand,

However should I go for a 3D model as I am hearing it provides excellent contrast ratio of 5 million, colours should be able to use it with 3D turned off.

The Panasonic VT20 fits this bill perfectly. It's picture quality and black level are damn near that of the 9th Gen Kuro with the added bonus of being the best 3D TV out there incase you want it.

+1 Got one of these sets last week. Very pleased so far.

still a huge premium because its 3d?

£1500 - £2000 is reasonable for new gen 50" plasma imo - but werent the VT20's nearly £3000 initially (I would be surprised if they have dropped much as they are still pretty new to market)

No they have always been £2300 ish, id buy one for the 2D PQ alone as its superb tbh, it also come with 2 pairs of glasses and the wifi dongle so for a top of the range 50'' plasma its pretty reasonable.

The fact Panasonic at least bundle two pairs of glasses with the television is nice but I'm sure the prices reflects that fact - a pair of the Samsung ones (At JL at any rate) cost £150 odd - although I know the purchase price is around half that!

And yea the 50VT20 has never been anywhere near £3k - £2295 or less seems to be the going rate give or take :)
