I'm thinking of buying a new scirocco, am I crazy?

In a market the list price is meaningless. What matters is the price it can be bought for. Currently it can be bought for £16k - anyone can walk in off the street and receive the 20% stimulus discount in that country. Anyone can buy a new Scirocco for £16k at the most even if they dont get the extra 12% discount.
This WILL affect future values of the used cars.
The list price of a Mondeo Titanium X Sport Estate, for example, is £28500. List price. You reckon thats going to have ANY effect on used value? Nope, none at all.
What matters is sale price not list price.

Im only getting this price because VW have a promotion on at the moment, the dealer is giving me a extra 12% off.
The czech government stimulus thing is only valid for VAT registered companies and I have to keep the car for 3 years.
But I will have to wait 4 months for delivery.

That's true, but I'm not going to claim that I would have gotten a Scirocco instead if she hadn't offered any opinion. I'm not driving at all at the moment in any case, so it would have been a bit unfair to demand x car then never use it

I have to say I read the VAT relief as business only. Can you imagine the fortunes the government would lose if they started zero rating new private car sales?! Also I suppose as a VAT registered business using a company car privately, you can probably not reclaim any of the VAT element.

He is going to work for my company when I leave so it will be used both privately and for business. We dont have to pay the VAT back if we use it privately but we do still have to pay some sort of company car tax. If we sell it in under 3 years we would have to charge VAT on the sale price.
Tbh the car itself is a rip off. I drive my mates all the time, it's a decent car to drive don't get me wrong, quite quick etc, his is the 2 liter turbo petrol. He paid 25k for it new, which again for a fwd car, and for the type of car could get so much more for the money. Think hes getting rid of it soon though.
Maybe you should ask your brother what car he wants, I know if I gave my brother a scirocco he'd prob sell it and buy an M3.

But this guy isn't your mate and he's not paying £25k for it??? And a M3 as a company car where company car tax is being paid, probably doesn't make as much sense, unless the Czech company car system somehow rewards thirsty 6 cylinder 3 litre or-whatever-they-are engines over frugal 1.4 4 pots. And got help him if the list price / CO2 emissions come into it as they do here.
The running costs still need to be considered as its basically going to come out of my pocket (well my company) for the next 3 years. Also its his first car and drivers in this country are crazy do I do not want anything too fast.

(well I understand why people buy 'cheap' hatches with small engines, to do a job and do it cheaply ...but this doesn't really apply here at all)

The 2.0 TSI with DSG is plenty good enough to have some fun and is refined enough for fairly comfortable motorway driving.I don't understand why people buy overpriced VW hatches with tiny engines, but there ya go
I appreciate that VWs are overpriced for what they are.
However, relative to the VW range, the Scirocco represents good value for money (especially since the Golf Mk6 interior adaptations). Also, this "you paid £whatmuch for a brand new VW" arguments seems to neglect the fact that the residuals are great - even more so on the Scirocco due to its currently ridiculously long lead times (3 months if you are lucky, 5 months the norm).
Right now there is very little difference between new sale price and one year old second hand sale price.

Tiny engines that go well suit most people I think. It's generally a petrolhead that craves lots of cubic inches, of which not everyone that drives is one.

Out of interest, what in your opinion represents better value for money in this price range?
As for 2L turbo engines being 'tiny', I dont get it.
£16k is very very nearly 335ci SE money now.

"Better value for money" doesn't come into things when you just want to buy something in particular. It is a ridiculous argument.
A two year old 1.25 Ford Fiesta is better value for money than a 2.0 DSG Scirocco.
A one year old Scirocco is marginally better value for money than a brand new Scirocco.
But what do I want? A new Scirocco. Anything else is by default not good value for money because it is not what I want.
How do we know the OP's brother wants a Scirocco, he may be planning a family that the OP doesn't know about and be looking to buy an X5 or something in the next few months.
I'd at least have a chat to see what he wants.
