Going to work this morning at 07:15 minding my own business. Was passing a large white lorry in lane 4 just after J14 on the M25 when he pulled into my lane straight into the side of my car!! This forced me into Lane 5 into the path of a transit van which wasn't sticking to the 60 MPH limit but luckily he managed to stop before he took out my boot. I've only had it 6 days!!!! FFS

Damage isn't too bad, few scratches, dents, wheels are mucked up but could have much worst.

I'm gutted.

The driver of the lorry is Romainan, registerd to a Romainian company and he didn't speak English bar a few words... sorry being one of them. It was a left hand drive lorry so I'm guessing he hadn't seen me when he went to switch lanes.

this is why i always travel in the outside lane during busy periods

No foreign LHD lorries with blind spots right beside trying to move into your lane.

Very unlucky. Hopefully you won't have any issues with regards to insurance. Did you get the details of the Transit driver? Might come in handy.

I've had this happen two times memorably. One time was more my fault than anything - I was travelling at very high speed and went to overtake a lorry, who decided to overtake a lorry that was in front of him. On this occasion I stood on the brakes and managed to scrub off about 100 MPH by about 10ft from his rear offside wheel. I'd started to head towards the central reservation thinking it was going to be the only way to stop in time!

The second time was when already overtaking a lorry at about 5 MPH faster and I had gotten about halfway past. Traffic was quite busy. I noticed his indicator flashing and toed it with my hand on the horn. Managed to pass him with a whisker to spare!

Lorry drivers are terrible for it, many a pair of pants have been soiled by near misses. For this reason I usually just cane it up the right lane, no lorrys, just a few nobs in BMW's not wanting to do dangerous speeds.

that's pretty much how it was, just that he didn't indicate, and just came rolling into the side of my car.

I called the insurance company this morning, gave them the details, gave them the driver/company/lorry details and it seems this sort of thing is pretty common.

I then got a call about half an hour later asking me when I would like the car repaired. It's going in on tuesday with a like-for-like replacement hire car being provided for me. Not bad service from the Insurance so far, but I wonder if they will ever catch up with said lorry driver and I wonder if I will ever get my excess back....

Guys, always look for a foregin plate, or an mirror looking down over what should be the drivers window. If yo see either of those dont dawdle past - either leave a gap to accelerate past, or change lanes/stay behind. The VERY worst thing you can do is dawdle past for the above reason.

This happened to me but it was a coach, not a lorry! Also, he wasn't intentionally coming into my lane, just wasn't keeping it very straight in a very narrow bit of road works.

He didn't even stop though, very very rear end clipped the car I was in. Incredibly glad I was in a hire car that day, insurance claim would've been tricky with no reg or anything!

I wodner if he even noticed? Not an excuse but these large vehicles really are huge compared to the cars we drive!

What I wondered also in the clio vs truck thread, do people not try to get the attention of the culprit ? Eg. honk at them ?

It's one of the reasons I bought the stebel nautilus, so people can actually hear me when I honk at them, but I think, if you're touching the other vehicle, even a standard single tone horn will be ok.

Saw in the news the other day that truck driver has been allowed to keep his license after pushing the Clio along for god knows how long. He did eventually pull over and didn't realise there was a car on the front of his truck till he got out!

saw that in the news, man that's worrying!! at least that didn't happen in my case. still annoyed now about it all.

I know, but did the clio not try honking at the truck, hell, even throwing rubbish out of the window upwards trying to get the attention of the truck ?

No the driver got on her mobile sharpish to the emergency services and screamed at them that she was going to die. They then pointed out that they weren't really in a position to intervene.

To be fair to the lorry driver he did ll he could, a ban or criminal charges would have been a terrible mistake imo

Correct me if im wrong here but from what ive read, the truck was in the middle lane overtaking the clio when the clio tried to pull out, the N/S front corner of the truck clipped then O/S rear corner of the clio spinning it onto the front of the truck, because of the almost matched speeds the impact was unnoticeable in the cab and due to the drivers angle of vision to the road he was unable to see the clio

The amount of times that I've had an "oh **** it's going to hit me and I'm going to die" moment at road works is unbelievable" Why do lorries insist on going in the middle lane in those 50mph stretches then encroaching on the tiny outside lane?!

When I rode a bike, for reasons explained above already this is why I always ragged it past them as opposed to dawdle. I deliberately ran a loud exhaust for situations like that as well which sometimes helped.
