Apple is now bigger than Microsoft

I have enjoyed this thread with my popcorn so far.

My opinion is that macs suck, over priced and pointless machines... I actually don't buy anything that is white for fear that other people may think I am a trendy homo - I have never bought anything from Apple or resembles Apple and never will.

I have used macs all throughout my design qualification and I hated them.. give me a windows pc anyday.

Great perspective

bit harsh

what course did you do? something to do with graphics design?

I only used Macs on display *cough purple shirts* and I hated them, the OS is too "designer" the minimise and close is on like a very small button, anyone with bad eye sight can't see that ( I have 20/19 vision)

I find linux easier to use on the GUI front and thats saying something

in perspective I found the ipod/phone very easy to use althrough means I m used to sony and multi tasking it will start to annoy me after a while

I agree but which numpty would then go out and spend twice as much on a piece of hardware with all the same features just because it looks nicer and has a piece of fruit on the side?

The same sort of numpty who would spend twice as much on a Mercedes when a Vauxhall Astra would meet all their functional requirements?

Except an average merc is more functional than an astra, and a macbook isn't compared to a cheaper laptop.
EDIT:
You're paying more for more.

In regards to PC vs Mac sometimes you're paying less for more.
Exactly.

Which is why I said sometimes.

Entry level Macs are a lot more expensive than entry level PC hardware from what I've seen.

You're paying more for more running costs, that's for certain ;)

Your second point is subjective.
Nope, you pay to have your *** massaged and have airconned seats, you pay for a nicer ride and air suspention ( s class), etcetc. An astra in comparison, will be slower and less comfy. That's why it costs more.

No it's not, are you honestly saying 2000 quid mac is just as functional as a 2000 quid pc ?

Not read the while thread so this has probably been covered, Apple being bigger is solely based on market capitalisation ( basically share price )

Apple's high Market Cap is largely a result of their huge profit margins

In terms of sales the figures are

HP $120b
IBM $96b
Microsoft $59b
Apple $51b

Multimedia design and production, I just don't like macs or apple for that matter. People like EVH may think less of me for whatever reason but it comes down to my own personal experience and personal preference.

In my opinion only people who don't know any better generally buy apple devices, there's many, many, far better mp3 players out there than the ipod, there's now better phones than the iphone etc... the type of people who refer to all mp3 players as ipods is who I mean.

yeah there is, a few years back i really wanted a apple, cos hardly anyone had them, plus I didn't know anything better.

now I do it depends on what you want from your MP3 personally speaking the touch is not a media player its a tablet, I get annoyed when PMPs get put up against it, they will not beat it, but they will in areas were it matters

I will find the nano to small and basic, plus your stuck for headset on the latest gen

the nano and the classic annoy me due to the touch sensitive pad. plus the nano has a too small of a screen to watch anything without getting eye strain.

Ipod touch is not a PMP its a tablet :p

so what alterative do I have, Cowon J3.

You have to go out of your way to buy a Mac, whereas most would-be buyers go in to town and just pick up a PC from any number of competitors.

I don't think less of you, you are entitled to an opinion and I respect that. Your statement that people only buy Apple products for the image is a huge generalisation and I can bet most buyers on these forums don't fall in to that stereotype.

I've run a recording studio full of Macs and done a degree based around that subject area, so my purchase was based on what I knew and what I thought would work best for me - it was the best hardware for the role.

Yes, there are better MP3 players, but that's life. People buy what they want. Sounds like you have a grudge because they are popular?

I wouldn't base my opinion on people who call all MP3 players "iPods". That's clearly retarded.

Apple will surpass Microsoft soon, their products are superior.

FACT.

But what about the cost? What makes you think that Apple, whose products cost an arm and a leg, are going to dominate MS, or something completely free like Linux?

Let's not forget that to legitimately use OSX you have to have a Mac, which aren't cheap are they.

MS are much less about hardware than Apple, so it's hard even to make a meaningful comparison.

Mac's are not as overpriced as people make out, providing you don't buy the RAM from them.

The iMac 27" is a good example of being competitive with cost. The older products that are due an update (e.g. Mac Mini) are starting to look poor, but that's because Apple doesn't lower (or higher) the price. It keeps them on the store until they are revised.

A good business practice? No. I'll admit that.
