Best cooler Noctua NH-D14 or Corsair H50-1

Not exactly an OC guru here hehe, but I was wondering exactly the same thing a few days ago when I decided to replace my heatsink, and based on what I could find I went for the NH-D14

I use a H50 (push / pull config) with a i7 930 @ 4Ghz. My max load temps are around 85c when running Intel Burntest on Very High settings.
Normal use idols around 45c, mid 70s for video encoding etc.

Definitely the Noctua, it's a better performer. The only reason not to would be if it fouls your RAM, though moving the fan can sometimes be enough to fix that.

Yeah, I had some fun and games with the H50 mounting bracket too. I miss my old NH-U12F, but it just wasn't cutting it! The NH-D14 is certainly the weapon of choice at the moment. One went for about £45 on the MM recently, I almost regret not buying it!

5c better temps with D14 according to that chart. I used to have a nightmare with my scythe HSF and HSFs in general. I have installed the H50 about 5 times now, it literally takes less than 1 minute. Key is to only screw the screws down a tiny bit, then put the pump fitting on one notch to the left and twist clockwise then push down on the cpu.

Once its down keep one hand pressed on it and tighten the 4 screws with the other hand then with a screwdriver

If you have no space/clearance issues it's no contest, the noctua every time. Will be a lot quieter due to larger fans and more surface are to dissapate the heat.

I have 2 Noctua P12s on my H50. Wont it sound the same?

Yes but it would cost a lot more and still not beat the NH-D14.

Saying that, it is possible that the tighter fin spacing on the Corsair's radiator could make the fans sound louder.

Theres also pump noise on the H50. Personally I cant any noise from the pump, I disconnected the fans on the rad and heard a very slight noise from the pump.

Get the D14 if you have space and dont mind messing about with large Heat sinks. Get the H50 if you want room to move other bits around inside your machine

Vortez puts the Noctua in the lead by 5 degrees at full load, both tested with the same 2 fans in push/pull.

I say H50 as it helps the case airflow by not being massive. Plus I have it cooling my Q9550@4Ghz and max load temps have never gone above 56c so far :D
