8K for "sport""ish" car

Check the clutch isn't slipping on the test drive (google for how). Clutches tend to go relatively quickly due to traffic light GPs.

As said though, an owners forum will usually have a good guide of exactly what to look out for.

Why is it lucky that its had a female owner? I would NEVER but a car that's had long term female owners.

Damn right, I know a girl that rags death out of her car from cold and I mean makes it scream to the point that I cringe

Old folk owners are the best, they just burn clutches :)

thats roughly what i thought as soon as i read it. the second part is a bit strong though :D

I didn't see the OP specify hatchbacks only, 8 grand buys you a lot and my money would not be going into a hatchback! :D

Put the savings out of 8 grand to insurance - total steal.

Another in budget - http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=787475&st=0

I'm bias but yeah..maybe think about something other than a hatch? :p

That second one is the the colour combo i want, pity i decided uni was a good idea so have no money :(

It's only as twitchy as you want it to be.

Drive like a nob and be prepared to have your head snapped off.

I don't think the OP has a long commute in mind going by his short-listed hatchbacks but his criteria has not been set. I am sure he will inform us if he chooses to look at other cars! Was just a "You may also consider..." seeing as he did not set any boundaries :D

Agreed, a lady drives a Hyundai up the hill I live on in first gear from cold. You should see the crap that comes out the back.

My gf, despite how lovely she is, has zero mechanical sympathy. Gearbox, clutch, alloys, engine - all standing in line waiting to be executed.

god that S2000 is not bad for the price. And those kid of guys keep it top notch, maybe ragged but they pay anything to maintain their car.

Ive found this nice fiesta ST, not bad for the price and miles on it.
