I want some of that aluminium goodness in my life. But I would want to put W7 on it.

Is this possible nowadays?

There's a few vague articles on the 'net, mostly relating to W7 betas.

I just want it to be like installing W7 on any other normal "PC" laptop.

Assuming I can get it working, what will the drawbacks (if any) be? I heard things about the graphics GPU being stuck "on" sucking power. And the keyboard backlight being stuck permanently on.

Any ideas?

The BootCamp utility in OS X does all the work for you by creating a dual boot system, and supports W7.

Blasting all trace of OS X off of the thing is getting in to crank territory so I don't know about that :p

Yep works fine, the nvidia card is used for W7 but other than it getting a bit warmer and drawing a bit more power thats about it.

Also if you get VMware Fusion or Parallels you can boot your boot camp partition as a VM.

It works fine as a "clean install" then? I.e. not dual booting?

What about the keyboard backlight and stuff. Is there any annoyances like that? Or do the "bootcamp" drivers sort out all that? Will the bootcamp drivers care that the OSX partition doesn't exist?

why would u ditch OSX for w7 just run both or w7 in a VM, OSX is much better

Got it today. It's quite alright. It's no Macbook of course in terms of build. But it's not too bad. I would have got a Macbook but there doesn't seem to be enough concrete details about putting W7 on it as a clean install to give me the confidence to spend the cash.

Battery life on this Asus is shockingly good. 10 hours!!!
