The same thing that's wrong with the majority of PAL games at the time - poor conversion from NTSC which means we have big black borders at the top and bottom of the screen, and it'll run slower. Even titles which did make the effort to do a proper PAL conversion such as MGS, suffer from a lower frame rate because the PS1 hardware struggled with the increased resolution that PAL offers.

This is why I and many others have bought all their PS1 games from the US store; although it messes you up completely if you intend on using it on a PSP due to the PSP being locked to a single PSN account at a time. :(
 
if they added the ps1 resize options that the psp has to the ps3 i wouldnt mind as much, the borders bother me a lot more than the speed

Last i checked it had that.

[EDIT] Ah, actually full screen still leaves the majority of the black bars.

really? i havent checked a playstation game on my ps3 for a while so it will be nice if they have :)

im talking about how it lets you change the height seperatly from width so you can drag the borders off screen and fix the ratio

last i checked you could only pick between full screen and widescreen there have been quite a few updates since then tho

The PAL version of FFIX is *really* bad, even when compared with other NTSC to PAL conversion. The world map performs atrociously, and an awful lot of the text is barely readable.

Still a brilliant game, but I'm glad I've got NTSC/U discs (well, and NTSC/J, and a couple of sets of PAL ones, but still :p).
 
Now we just need the original PS1 version of Final Fantasy Tactics for the classic Square games to be almost complete. The U.S store has had that game for ages now.

As for the PAL thing, yeah it sucks bad. All our games tend to run slightly slower due to the differences with 50Hz and 60Hz (NTSC). We do get a sharper image, but at the cost of speed and slightly squashed with borders.

Yes there is the PSP remake War of the Lions, but it would still be nice to have the original PS1 version as another choice.

No different to say, Resident Evil, when there is the remake on the GameCube, but people would still also like to have the original.
 
Thanks for this, I haven't checked the PSN store for ages! Will need to rush to finish VII and VIII now.

FF IX was the only one on the PS that I didn't even bother with :(

It's arguably more enjoyable than 7 and 8 in most peoples eyes, personally I've always had a weird liking to it :)

Agreed, i was a massive fan of 7 clocked it soo many times, then enjoyed 8 but for some reason i just fell in love with 9, the characters and character designs are just amazing and the story and game play was fantastic! the hardest bit was always breeding a damn golden chocobo to get the final weapons!

Either way i dont play the PS3 that much these days but it might get set up and download the last of the FF games as i have 7 and 8!
