the other day i bought 2 8800gts 512 oc edition gfx cards both from the same seller, only to find when they where delieverd this morning that they are infact 320mb version instead, they where advertised as 512, ive sent him a message saying im dissapointed but i havent left feedback yet or asked for any money back etc...

what do you think i should do, or should i just leave it?

Try and get a refund.

How did you pay for the items? If by PayPal then I think you could be covered under the items not as described

ive opened a dispute and asked for a £35 refund to make it £70 i paid, i think thats a fair price for the cards. if not then i will request a full refund.

Beat's me why peep's buy stuff from fleabay, the amount of people who have been conned, when buying good's, just to save a few quid.

Far better to save the extra and buy new, or if you can use the member's market here.

Then they come on here asking what to do, the answer is -

Never buy of FLEABAY, simple as that.

Stop living up to your forum name. :p

There are good deals to be had on the bay. I have had several brand new bargain motherboards, the latest a Gigabyte EP43-UD3L V1.2 for £35, and have had no problems. I also sell all my old components on there. If it was'nt for the bay i would'nt be able to upgrade as often as i do.

It might be an honest mistake. Just be polite and courteous. Private or business seller? Auction or Buy It Now?

Eitherway, it is item significantly not as described. (SNAD)

Give the seller time to rectify the mistake. Let them know you will accept wither a partial refund or a return. Don't be arsey (like some people do) as they are less likely to help you!

Just email him and ask him.

If he says hes not going to refund, go to paypal and do a chargeback.

you will have the money within an hour.

The 320's really are massively inferior to the 8800gtx 512's. Get it sorted. The 512's with a mild overclock can keep up with an 8800GTX 768 most of the time.

ok so he refunded me £35 that i asked for, so including elivery i paid £70 for two in original boxed etc, i dont think thats too bad, i'll just have to get my hand on another pair now.

Not sure why you did that and didn't get a full refund.. what good are they to you now if your gonna go buy another set?

its just for a folding@home rig, if it was for gaming or something else i would have sent them back, i could have bought 3 8800gtx's for £180 aswell from the bay but decided to keep it cheap for now.

I've bought some acetal and copper off ebay, but nothing else. Both are ridiculously difficult to source locally. Can't say I'd buy a graphics card from there though.

I'm fairly sure folding at home will give exactly the same ppd however much ram the card has, but I also have a suspicion the shader count between 512mb and 320mb versions is different. If so, the lower shader count is going to significantly hurt your ppd.

Lower number of shaders plus lower shader clock will cost you about 30% of the PPD compared to the 512mb model, if they're 96 shader models rather than 112 then you lose around another 15%
