I'm thinking of buying a new scirocco, am I crazy?

Yep, indeed that's what the op said, although to be fair, 2 litres is pretty small anyway, for a £21k car at least. However, I didn't come here to start the inevitable argument about weather VW's are worth the money or weather all the forced induction on earth can make up for a chronic lack of cubic inches ...I was just making an observation.

£16k is very very nearly 335ci SE money now.

Not here its not, I sold me 07 335i in late 08/early 09 for 39k. I now have a E93 335i (well my wife drives it) and its really not the sort of car I am looking for.

How do we know the OP's brother wants a Scirocco, he may be planning a family that the OP doesn't know about and be looking to buy an X5 or something in the next few months.

I'd at least have a chat to see what he wants.

This is how it all started, I thought I would buy a Skoda Fabia for him as they are quite good value for money (base one would cost me around 6/7k new). They had some good offers on a golf (around 10k) and offered Financing at 4.5% so I thought I would put a little on finance and get him a golf. Then came the Scirocco idea. He really is keen on the car but I just did not know much about the engine/ car so thought I would post here.

If we go with this I will finance 50% and put 50% down. My dad has just retired so offered to throw a little extra in also. FYI my brother is a full time Medical student do he does not work.

When he finishes uni in 3 years he will sell the car, if I need the money he will give me back what ever he gets if not he can just use it for his next car.

It wasn't a serious suggestion as they are totally different cars for totally different markets.

:)

He may have expressed an interest in a Scirocco but it's totally different to having £16k spent on one, sit him down - say as a 'thank you' you have about £16k to spend, would he like this new Scirocco you've looked into or something different?

LOL sorry I thought you where serous but FYI if it was a car for me and I was spending that sort of money it would be a 335i:)

I will ask him again but I think he is very keen on the Scirocco also for that sort of money there is not much else you can get new. I know used is a different story but I want to beat the depreciation (due to getting the VAT back and my discount) and that would not be the case with a used car.

Unfortunately, it's a result of the CO2 race, look forward to even smaller cylinder units from BM & VW in the near future.
