anything "wrong" with wireless keyboards? (or mice)

I am going to be moving my PC from a spare room into my bedroom in a few days and I am a bit worried about the mess of cable that will result.

I currently have a wired keyboard and mouse (both roughly six years old from dell). I was considering upgrading them anyhow (keyboard is PS2!) and was wondering if i should consider going wireless.

what are the downsides of wireless?

how long do batteries last? how do you charge them?

is there a noticable lag for gaming?

I have a logitech G7 for several years now and it is great - it came with two rechargeable Li-Ion batteries which you can recharge in the wireless receiver which plugs into your a USB port. So you just hot-swap the batteries over when one is running down - this takes no more than a few seconds so unless your are stuck in a really tight situation this is never a problem.

Looks like the incarnation is about £70 so it really depends on what you are willing to spend.

The only noticeable lag in gaming is usually down to me!

Something i always found when people talked about wireless stuff is lag. I've been using wireless mice for ages and never had any lag issues. My brother switched to using a wired mouse because his wireless broke and he instantly was annoyed at having a lead :p

With regards to batteries, i have an mx3200 laser set.

Keyboard batteries i hardly ever replace. Between 6 months and a year i guess. Mouse is probably more like every 1 - 2 months but then i use my pc a lot.

Thats with just standard energiser AA batteries.

With my previous mouse (mx1000) it had a built in battery charger and docking station. I dont think this sort of things exists anymore but that worked well atleast, although i found it would only last about 3 or 4 days with constant heavy use but i charged it every night anyway.

If you are a hardcore fps gamer then don't go wireless, unless its something like a Razer Mamba, if you are a casual gamer and play different genres of games just go for a wireless.

This is something I'd love clarification on from the hardcore FPS wireless guys n gals, I've been tempted before by wireless setups but I'm really into my FPS games online. Do you get noticeable lag from wireless kb/mouse, is it actually a problem?

I have a the Logitech wireless wave desktop, the keyboard lag doesn't bother me but the mouse was annoying with regard to delay, I bought an MX518 wired mouse which is much much better. I keep the wireless mouse by my bed so I can control my PC when watching videos on my TV.

I've been using wireless mice for fps games for ages and never noticed any lag compared to a wired mouse. Maybe i just dont notice it or people who bought wired mice are just trying to convince them selves its better but i dunno.

Using Logitech Performance MX mouse along with the Microsoft Arc keyboard here. Came to these from a Logitech G5 and MX518 mice and Logitech G15 (mk1) keyboard.

I definitely believe there is a delay with wireless.

I just also definitely believe I can't notice or detect it in any manner or form, and I do nothing but game on the PC. If it's there, it's meaningless and eclisped by the fun I have without wires.

when ever i use a wireless mouse it feels like its lagging, i use a lot of different peoples computer and it seems every time i use a wireless mouse its the same..

not a bit lag or one you can really see, it just feels like there is a fraction of a second delay in there some where...

maybe its because they are cheap ones?

I'm very much into FPS and had moved from a wired setup to two different wireless setups.

I initially thought the setup was fine, it all seemed to play just fine but I started to get irritated with how fast the batteries would deplete (my Logitec setup was BY FAR the best for battery use).

In the end I got irritated by the batteries so I moved to wired and was very surprised at how much control and speed I found with the wired setup. I still couldn't conclusively say that the wired setup was better because I didn't have the same equipment in both, so my wired mouse could easily have had a higher resolution compared to my wireless mouse.

Still, I'd only ever swear by wired for gaming now.

I've just stayed with wired as I don't take my mouse and keyboard anywhere, they stay on the desk. I don't even know without looking, what side the wire comes out of the keyboard.

Tried quite a lot of wireless mice and thye are not good for gaming hardcore, cant see the point in them, keyboards are ok but wireless mice just feel totally wrong to me. Get a mouse bungie and you wont ever notice the wire.

the new mouse's coming out now like the mamba and x8 and others have 0 lag. the x8 has long battary life, and the mamba has better dpi. but the older gen if you like wireless mouses are poor and wired has always been the way. although i much prefer wireless and rate the x8 highly for my needs

cheers all, definitely sticking with a wired setup for the time being. on the point of the mamba, i've never been struck on razers build quality over logitech.
copperhead vs mx518 no contest

The wireless mouse I gamed with once lagged, it was a good Logitech but it was some years ago.

Personally I have never found the wires annoying and I'd hate the hassle of batteries and charging. I never really move my keyboard and my mouse only needs to move a few centimetres.
