So I got into work this morning, late and feeling massively worse for wear after a work night out celebrating the CEO's 50th and Chairmans sebatical. anyway I digress, I get in and there is a load of boxes and one strange looking package on my desk. In the boxes, nothing special, a few laptop chargers and the same boring old IT bits and bobs, a few new laptops and what have you. Another normal day I think.... Or not I open up the second package and one of my clients has bought me and my misses an experience day each as a thank you for a last minute disaster recovery job.

So this is my question, I can pick from untold amounts of activities from flying a plane (which I have already had several lessons), gliding, driving experiences, rally experience, hotel breaks etc. But what one to pick?

Have you been on one? what was it like and would you recommend it?

I went on a be an SAS solider for a day experience once. I randomly entered a competition to win the chance to do it and I won, so I figured I should go it being free and all!

To be honest, if I were paying for it I would have been very disappointed. We did a few cool things like act out a scenario with laser equipped SA80s, which I was the squad leader for. I had no idea what I was doing so I got us all killed 3 times in a row but it was fun none the less. :D I did pistol, grenade and hand to hand combat training as well. That was all cool but it would have cost £300+ if I had to pay for it!

It's really going to depend on the people actually running the experience day with regards to the quality of it as to my knowledge people like Red Letter just sell tickets on behalf of other companies. If I were you, I would pick a race track day or tank combat thing. It would depend how much you have to spend though!

Luck you being allowed to take it, wherever I've worked, there's been rules about what you could and couldn't accept as gifts (it's seen as bribery by clients, etc)..! Not that I got offered anything, mind...

did a rally day at castle comb race track.
It was pretty good. would have preferred a normal track day though. Rally is so much different to road driving, it takes a ages to get a hang of it.

Hotel break sounds good. I think the driving experience days can be a bit hit and miss and more than likely be pretty poor if it's part of a package thing.

Im really not sure what I want to do, there is a lambo experience day and a farrari one - anybody tried either of these?

I did a racing "day" (more like 3 hours) at thruxton, got to drive a mazda MPS to warm up, then a porsche Cayman and then a formula renault.

It was a huge amount of fun but it just wasn't long enough for the price in my opinion, 5 laps in each with tutoring etc...

I did a offroad Landrover expierance day for my birthday a few years ago, it was really good fun! On a side note with some of the sports car driving days you have to be careful if your tall, as most say you cant be over 6ft2.

Now this is an idea but I am pretty petrified of hights and instead of enjoying the fall I would probably be crying all the way down... Big girl I know.

Actually I'm also scared of heights, but when you are that high up it doesn't seem...real? I don't know how to explain it, but it didn't give me any problems.

No rules here, if a client wants to give me a present, so be it. Last time i got a case of some pink champers. Not really ideal as im not a drinker but the family liked it :)

Just realised that this contradicts the opening statements... but if its free, you cant turn it down!

i did a driving day at Brands which the the wife (then GF) got me for my 21st. Drive around in a megan 225 for 15 mins and then in a single seater for 15 mins. great fun. if you ever do a driving experience do one like that and not one of the "3 laps in supercar" ones. so much hype and you barely get enough time with the car to enjoy it.

Yep, dont go for the supercar options. You aren't going to get to drive it hard at most centres. Lotus exiges and sporty seats and megans you will push hard. I think I overtook a few ferraris on my track experience (in an exige) as they took the corners soo slowly.
