Cars like these are there for no other reason than to put a massive smile on the owner's face, the MX5 having less horsepower doesn't mean it is any less likely to do this, it just has to do it in a different way.

Anyway, I doubt somebody buying a car based on horsepower figures/stats would really be interested in a S2000. 250BHP is hardly masses of power, and there are 'quicker' cars out there for the money.

Spot on, my choice would be Celica T-Sport I know its not a roadster or RWD but meh I dont like Roadsters so thats as close as it gets

Sorry what? If you read the post you quoted you'd see that that 8k mx5 would be pushing out 200bhp, not 140. Oh and the s2000 is 240 not 250 bhp.

UK is closer to 240 indeed, the JDMs with a different manifold/higher compression come in at around 250.

It's a Japanese coupe from the late 1990's. I'm sure its very good, but it's also very not £8000 at the same time.

I wouldnt spend 8K on one either, i'd get a late as possible model I could afford with £6k and spend the change on an Apexi intake, Apexi World Sport cat back and a nice set of wheels

But those days are gone so I probably wouldnt to be fair
