Following on from my "rarest cars you've mot'd" thread, I present to you my "oldest car you mot'd"

Here's my entry - 1911 Austin Tourer (sorry about pic size + quality)

It passed of course! That's the 4th classic car i've done for this owner, did another one of his Austin 16's earlier this morning. All his cars are in concourse condition.

They are all coming out and getting ready for the Fraserburgh Vintage Car Rally next weekend. I'll be going and taking my camera so i'll make a thread with some pics from it for those that are interested.

Cheers.

concourse...paint flake???

Only joking, I am actually rarely making a post in motors...how does such a car deal with modern "MOT" requirements?

I know that there is plenty of "if it doesn't have it we don't test it" which goes for rear wipers etc, but what does and does not need to be considered for MOT'ing such a car?

its vintage, not classic, 1931 is the cut off, to be pedantic!

1919 is the oldest thing we have, to mot, thats a bike.

if you looked down the list there were loads of really old nice cars.

No doubt in shocking states, but still they should be restored rather than just scrapped :(

Stuff like Morris Minors and MGBs was scrapped, I don't believe any vintage cars were scrapped.

Cool, I remember Top Gear doing an fairly interesting piece talking about the controls on cars of this era.

I can see i has a steering wheel, but what are the other controls like. I asume you have to road test it, it must be a little nerve racking the first time you drive something like this.

I forgot about this thread. Yeah the paint flake you pointed out is on the leaf springs, things that probably shouldnt be painted anyway. It'll have been in storage all winter and only just came out, hence the covers on the chrome. Beleve me by next weekend that slight rusty marks you see won't be there.
You dont need to test drive something this old as it doesn't require its brakes testing. You basically go through the same motions as in a modern car, its just a few things that are basically not there so not required to test.
Oh and as for scrappage stuff mentioned above, as far as i'm aware the car you were scrapping needed to be road legal i.e. MOT'd to be scrapped.. so while there might have been some pretty knackered cars scrapped its not like they were flogging barn finds!

A 1911 car is classed as Edwardian
Vintage is 1918 to 1930
then classic from 1930

upto 1904 is veteran iirc. thats manufacturere date, not registration.

MOT's on these things are jsut a waste of time, you pretty much take your life in your own hands, espicailly when you get enthusiastic. My A7 Ulster, after some tuning is getting towards 90mph - which is extremelly hair raising!
