Job app : job interview : job offer ratio

It depends if you are going for really specialised positions. Less people apply and the best cv/app gets the interview. If you are going for something general hundreds of people can apply and they only have 20 jobs. When I was unemployed my advisor said that 4 years or so ago it was 1 job for every 6 applicants and that now it is more like 1 in 60.

I have had 2 interviews for the DWP, the first one was about 2 yrs ago, just after uni. They interview 500 people for 40 jobs throughout the northwest. The 2nd interview I had for them I was told they interview 3000 people over 2 weeks at the Aintree racecourse and the Holiday Inn. 3000 people for 60 jobs..... Safe to say I didnt get it.

I now work in the biochem labs for the NHS, and when I got the job the HR woman told me that they only accept the first 60 applications and then forget the rest. These apps are sorted and then people are interviewed. So if you are the best man for the job but your are app number 61 its tough. This seems like a ridiculous system but I bet it saves a fortune in not sifting through hundreds of apps and I bet they are not the only company that it.

Anyways, I was unemployed for ~7 months. 150 apps, 15 interviews and 3 offers. All offers came in the same week so I chose the NHS as it was more money and hours but further to travel.

I applied for 3 jobs when I left uni, got interviews for them all and got offered one and rejected from the other two.

Since starting my first real job I've never really actually applied for anything as such.
All my jobs have come from agents or from former colleagues referring me, but everything I've intervied for I've either had an offer or accepted something else while I was still in the running.

8:8:0. I went up to places and asked for a job, they just asked me a few questions and took that as the interview. Never heard back.

Tescos and asdas is in that list.

Guess I'm at 4:4:3

1 job as a waiter, paper round, and currently a first year physics project scheme thing (spending half my summer on campus, lol). And the failed one was an apprenticeship for rolls royce, that I didn't want but went along for the interview experience. Quite valuable I think.

Oh if you include universities its 9:7:6

I applied to about 25 grad schemes. Been to 3 assessment centres and had numerous phone interviews. Keep coming second when there's one job on offer. Beginning to get upsetting as I really wanted to move out this year, I'm just in the process of applying to internships now. I hope to have more luck next year in the grad scheme process.

Were on earth do you find 90 jobs to apply for? Are they all random in different areas? Just looking for any old job?

From the past 12 months - 0:2:2

I didn't apply for either of my last two jobs. First job of the year I was approached for- they are a contractor for my current company. I was sent down to my current place to do a couple of days a week. My current company then asked me to work full time with them. :)

In previous years, the above ratio looked very very different though!

I just spammed applications out all over the country. There are plenty of jobs out there, you just have to find them and apply to them. And be aware that most won't even bother to reply.

I failed to get into any grad schemes for the industry I wanted to get into this year, I applied to 15ish had 6 interviews but no offers

In my career it's been 9:9:8.

Not currently looking but have had a couple of interview requests from rival consultancy firms. Business is booming at the moment in our industry though, and I mean -really- booming. So all the companies are frantically trying to hire more people with experience.

Did you just use these job websites or other sources too?

Mostly job websites, yes. Main ones I used were Milkround, Monster and Graduate Recruitment Bureau. The job I finally accepted, I applied to directly.
