Things you forget when building

i was upgrading a friends onboard graphics to a 3850, i put the card in checked it was fitted correctly check the video lead was connecting the computer to monitor. when i switched the comp on no video signal at all! so i reinstalled the card, rechecked every connection/component and tried again - still nothing on the monitor it was then that i relised my mistake,

i told my friend some crap like i need to recalibrate the cards "double hyper cross system transportal V6 circuitry" to align it with the mainboards V7 circuit. I prentened to do something with the card for awile, then i quicky took the vga cable out of the mainboards I\O pannel and put it into the back of the graphics card (doh!) and to his amassment it worked

Dont ask how but i forgot to put a monitor on my desk once id rebuilt an old machine, sat there just playing on the xbox wondering when the machine was going to boot up obv until i realised there was no monitor for me to be looking at.
Moronic moments!

As long as you don't forget the risers that keep the back of the motherboard off the bare metal, had a friend forget those and wonder why his computer wouldn't work :D

I once forgot the CPU fan cable, another time I forgot the RAM. (Rather funny).

Other than that just stuff like getting SATA cables mixed up

Hard drive :s

Spent a hell of a long time trawling through a mates BIOS wondering why the mobo couldn't see the hard disk, only to turn around 10-15 minutes later looking for the manual and see it next to us

Usually some sort of power connector, have missed the GFX power before which worried me as it took me a minute or 2 to realise what I'd done. Other than that, the HDD lights, reset button and power light have caused me difficulties

Only thing I can recall is missing the fan cable for the 8800GT as its an aftermarket fan, went downstairs to make a drink while I leave it folding, I comes back upstairs looks at hwmonitor and see that its at 120'C. Cue taking sidepanel off and plugging fan back into controller.

I used to forget to clear CMOS jumper on older builds.
Normally I forget to plug something in, either a molex or the 12v flylead.
GF forgot to clip her heatsink to the CPU properly on her last build tho, she was lucky she didnt fry the chip :D

My first ever build is in my sig, and when I was assembling it I didn't forget anything!
I made an extremely anal checklist though, and double-checked everything about 20 times, so there wasn't much scope for my retardedness to creep in :D

RAM in correct places. Spent a while wondering why I was getting no display, finally looked at the manual to realise the memory were in the wrong slots. :(

i've done a few silly things in the past.

recently i installed a new fan backwards, then wandered y there was no airflow in the case :P
all of them were extracting and ended up having no intake fans.

something i tend to do a lot, when im doing something inside the case, i usually flip the power switch on the psu. And so many times i've forgotten about it, and wandered y the pc doesn't power up

Atx 4/8 pin connector not in and ram in the wrong slots, when i built my i7 system i had the ram in the wrong slots, no signal on switch on, nearly cacked myself, quick check on the manual and got it sorted, typical bloke, never reads instructions.

i forget to fit the front panel connectors at the start of the build (as there much easier to fit without all the rest of the cables in the way) :)

never forgot to fit the backplate but i wonder why the stock plate (with the case) NEVER FITS any mobo i want to use :p

This.......^^

first build a few months ago, i missed this out, stripped the build down 3 times before i decide to post here and ask for advice. posted the question and then decided to have a look at the instructions:o

I build several PCs every day, and I have a funny habit of absent mindly connecting the DVD drive to the Hard drive via the SATA cable. Harmless, but quite funny I think.
