My dad owns the above lens and is willing to sell, especially now that he knows how much it has appeared to have appreciated!

Many moons ago he bought a Nikon FE2 which he still has with a few lenses including the nikkor 58mm f1.2. Quick look on ebay suggests this lens is valued between £2000-£3000...:eek:

First of all is that accurate, and where can we find potential buyers? My dad was just thinking of taking it down to Jessops to see how much they would offer, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not.

Basically just asking where to find potential buyers for this lens, and what roughly it is valued at (it's in immaculate condition, as is the rest of his gear).

Your valuation is about right, but I can't imagine there're many prospective buyers about, and whilst they don't show up on <auction site>.co.uk too often, there always seems to be a few on <auction site>.com. Yes, it was a limited run (simply because it wasn't popular I believe). Yes, it was expensive (hand-ground aspheric elements). Yes, it renders beautifully and blows out backgrounds smoothly...but you can now get a Voigtlander 58/1.4 for 1/10th of the price and apparently it's the better performer.

Don't waste your time taking it to Jessops, they won't even be slightly fair. Stick it on the auction site for a quick sale, or try somewhere a bit boutiquey like Grays of Westminster (where people go specifically for manual focus Nikon glass).

edit: I've seen a few pop up on Grays recently, the one they had before was around for a few weeks before it sold. There's rumours abound of a Nikon 50/1.2 AF-S, which might be why people are starting to try and sell their NOCTs (like some 28/1.4 AF-Ds started appearing just before the 24/1.4 AF-S was available).

I'm not sure how much attention it would get at an auction site and not entirely sure how much to stick up for either. If anyone knows of people anywhere in the country that have been looking for this lens, let me know :p

I'm looking for one, can't afford £2-3k though, might have to settle for the CV58/1.4 :o

We're not looking to get the absolute max we can for it, but not exactly giving it away at bottom dollar either. Send me an email (in trust) of what you would be willing to pay for it if you're still interested.
