How good is blue ray player on PS3?

Fantastic IMO:
  • It's going to be updated to support 3D Blu-Ray
  • The PS3 Slim can bitstream TrueHD & DTS-HD audio to amp
  • Fast loading times
  • Online content supported
  • PS3 can act as a media receiever (albeit lack of MKV support)
  • You can play PS3 games!
  • Good DVD upscaling (not the best however)

I'm also interested in this too, if you use it as a media player to play your ripped dvd's can you still get 5.1?

Sorry dont know much about this at all.

If you game and use the networking side then it is great.

Don't see myself ever upgrading until there is something noticably better than comes along.

But I also run my sound through DD/DTS, none of this HD audio malarky. I would always pick a DTS setup with better older equipment than some new kit that spouts out how it can handle this and that HD codec ;)

Standard Dolby & DTS audio will decode from files fine, however the PS3 will only decode HD audio (TrueHD & DTS-HD/MA) if it's directly from a Blu-Ray disc.

Thanks meatball.

Thats what i though... might have to invest in one unless someone can come up with a better option. I have no interest in using it for gaming.

It seems like the best option to stream movies and play blu-ray!

I've got a PS3 and use it for DVDs, Bluray, as well as watching the parts of my DVD collection that have been ripped so far and TV (PlayTV).

Use it for this more than games and wouldn't trade it for the world. :)

oh cool, not too bothered about the metadata but the thumbnails are a must for me.

Thanks for the info.

Is it easy to do?
