i7 930 @ 4GHz, with this cooler;

Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B CPU Cooler with 2000RPM Sharkoon Silent Eagle 120mm

just got the PC today, form overclockers its the ultimate viper with 5870 MW2 edition, and 40gb ssd upgrade.

all fans are on highest speed, yet my temperatures seem really high on idle.

these are my CPU temperatures on IDLE:

What are your ambient temps?

Also, What voltage is your chip running at?

It does seem a wee bit hot, but idle temps are difficult to gauge - how hot does it get at full load (using a stress tester like IBT or Prime95)?

it's running at 1.3V, i havent change the voltage or anything. however this is the lowest stable voltage, anything lower just BSOD's.

max temp in Prime 95 was around 65c. Should I underclock to 3.8GHz and try and lower the voltage a little? can't really see there being a massive change in performance.

A good 30 minutes. And I've underclocked my i7 930 to 3.8GHz, multiplier at 181 21x down from 191 21x and my ram is running 100mhz slower however, not sure how to solve that if i change my spd multiplier from 8 to 10 it runs at 1800, which i'm not sure.

anyway, voltage at 1.232v and running fine at 3.8GHz. temps are much better on idle, high 30c's :)

its funny.. if I have it at 4GHz my voltage must be a miknimum of 1.3V to be stable, but if I lower it to 3.8v i can drop the voltage down a fair bit lower, and it still be stable? whats crack there?

How long did you run prime for?65c on load is good for an i7@4ghz on air.

Too right.. My cores hit 95c, same cooler (megahalem), same cpu, same bios settings.. But i'm using a coolermaster cosmos 100 case, which is known for its poor airflow.. Looking into the antec 1200..
