UFC 114: Rampage vs. Evans

Totally agree with you, Brilz rocked him good!

Indeed, Lil Nog looked sloppy on the feet considering how much hype there was in his stand up, especially when you consider how wide and slow Brilz punches were, but they still landed. Brilz also demonstrated more of the fact that a good wrestler can neutralise a great BJJ fighter, same as Lesnar vs Mir.

surprising people compare gsp to rashad i mean last few gsp fights he has controlled his opponent, attempted submissions and strikes/gnp and comes out of a fight taking no damage.

evans last 3 fights he got KO'd by a very good machida, rocked by thiago silva and rocked again by rampage. nearly losing those fights

he controlled the fight very well though, i thought the fight would go to a rashad decision. he has a good chance of beating shogun to i just think his glass chin will ultimately let him down

Very impressed and shocked by Hathaway, who was superb, negating the Sanchez takedown's beautifully and as a result, taking away his effectiveness.

That Russow knockout was a shock as well, after taking some awesome shots, a total surprise.

Bisping did quite well with his stand up, although I thought Miller would have tried to take it to the ground more, but he is a tough bloke alright.

How did Little Nog get the decision as well, that was a terrible decision for me.

Rampage offered nothing, apart from the end of the third and Evans had little trouble apart from that, a disappointing fight.

Overall, not bad, especially for us Brits.

Hathaway was immense, and the Russow KO was like... wtf? I still cant understand how that happened.

Any fight with Rashad in p's me off - the guy is so awful he shouldnt even be called a fighter. I'm actually NEVER going to watch a fight with him in it ever agai after the Shogun fight, i'm so tired of him.

Heres hoping Shogun knocks all of his ******* teeth out and makes him swallow them. Also, I knew Miller would stand with Bisping (i said it on page 1 i think and was ridiculed :) ), But I didnt expect Bisping to be so crisp on his feet.

Agreed RE: Lil Nog looking sloppy.Theres quite a few Black House fighters getting a lot of grief recently from the UFC / Fans: Lil Nog, Anderson Silva, Machida, etc. If it werent for Big Nog and Aldo they might just leave the UFC (joking!).

Lil Nog didnt do enough to win IMO, but as we all know the judges decisions hardly ever make sense.

Huh? Your kidding right?

Good event overall, very impressed with Hathaway, Nog didn't seem up to his usual self; seemed very tentative on the feet which is weird.

Shogun's takedown defence isn't as strong as Rampage's or Machida's so the first couple of rounds might be tough going.

I would expect something similar to Evans-Silva except that unlike Thiago who failed to capitalise after Evans was rocked Shogun should have no such problems.

Not at all. Rashad is a boring, typical LNP-style fighter. All his prancing around, avoiding etc It just rubs me up the wrong way. Same as Koscheck - he is not a Mixed Martial Artist, he is a wrestler who has learned some crude, boot-camp stand up and he is abysmal to watch.

I cant name a fight I watched Rashad in that was entertaining apart from his KO of Salmon. Honestly, When i see fights with him or Koscheck in i turn off for 15 minutes as i know what to expect - Takedowns, minimal damage on the ground, and a decision victory. *yawn* indeed.

THAT SAID - Rampage was indeed awful; he looked out of shape, uninterested and he had no idea how to deal with a quite obvious Evans/Jackson game plan - it wasnt anything particularly unheralded and unseen. Overall though, a very enjoyable UFC 114 - great card, especially the Brilz fight :)

Untill the rules are changed or modified, the way of fighting you described is the best way forwards. Little damage taken and a near certain 100% victory. Not saying that i agree with it but if you had the skillset to take advantage of the way fights are scored wouldn't you?

It may be boring but Rashad imo is definitely not a typical LNP style fighter. He's had some very exciting fights recently, i thoroughly enjoyed him fighting Liddell, Forrest and Machida (even though he lost).

Rampage had too long between fights to be anywhere near 100% in the cage. Can't think that he would have had too much time to train either whilst shooting the A-Team.

wall and stall very boring like most jackson camp fighters

that said rampage could have finnished the fight but he let rashad recover could have been gassed or the ring rust

I thought the best fight was the first one between Sanchez and Hathaway, it typified what UFC and MMA stand for, plenty of effective striking, an interesting and exciting fight, and lots of heart and stamina shown from both fighters. I thought the main event was pretty boring to be honest, Evans tried to take it down to the ground whenever possible (understandably), and Rampage just looked completely devoid of any ideas. Overall a pretty good card, though I'm looking forward to UFC 116 more I think.

you have broken 2 cardinal sins in your pick.

never bet against rampage

never bet for bisping when he's fighting legit opponents.

Say what? :p

Just got round to watching this. Main event was pretty dull and disappointing really. I agree with everything that's been said generally. Brilz definatley should have got that win.

While Evans does look a little gps, I reckon hes just been watching tapes of Machida over and over again and copied his elusive style of attacking in and out, and just fighting safe and when the other fighters opening up also he strikes.

But if anything Evans is on a roll think thats 3-4 wins non stop since his loss to Machida ?

Would have made a much more exciting fight if it was Rampage vs shogun- Round 2, but alas I reckon Rampage needs to start from the ground up again give him Silva Axe murderer and Machida and another to deal with and if hes passed all them the shot at Evans or shogun again :)

Rampage will always be a character the fans love, but I bet some will feel different with Evans now dispite the boos.

Rumour is that Rampage v Machida is next :p

If Rampage returns to the octagon that is, he's mulling over some new film roles and would turn to that full time if he decides to go in that direction.

nah that was NOT lay and prey... you should watch some early fights where the other fighter literally sits on top of the other for 3 rounds waiting for something to happen.

rashad rocked rampage early and then had a better game plan. rampage looked like a static target - rashad mobile and heavy hitting there was only going to be one winner once you saw the form.

rmpage vs machida will be a tough bout for both fighters but rampage needs to shake that rust pretty quickly if he wants a chance...

but as for the event overall? didnt 3 out of 4 fights make a decision and the remaining fight looked to be going to a decision but russow pulled out an unexpected KO...

what i really do hate is when the fighters start hugging each other at the start of the 3rd for instance, especially after the smack talk before the fight... its like if you have a gripe with him, you wouldnt be hugging or touching up gloves mid fight....wheres the passion or the genuine emotions? its all a bit WWE now i think. Evemn rampage rashad didnt give it the bad mouth after the fight but at least they didnt hug too or something equally stupid.

I agree with what you are trying to say - the faux animosity is so transparent, and the "biggest grudge match ever" - Did people Forget Chuck vs Tito or something? Absolute joke.

But on the flipside, what i cant stand is what Lesnar did - kicking off with Mir after he won the fight. That makes me sick to my stomach. We're all professionals at the end of the day, and a pro doesnt do something like that. Theres hype/PR, but after you've sold the event and the tickets, you need to give it a rest.

oh yea, the daley thing was stupid too...really stupid...but one fight they were hugging as the third round started...

now i play some low level 5 aside/6 aside football.. if i was to go and hug my opponents at the start of the 2nd half i dont think the rest of the team would be best pleased...

and in a fight? the fans by this point are thinking wtf, we paid to watch them try to KO each other not to take it easy and have a big tap fest or hug fest in the middle of the match up.

yea they also bigged it up as the biggest fight ever in the intro and i was thinking..not really...rampage been away for 12 months... evans just lost to machida... its a B rate fight with 2 decent personalities.
