A bit of Kitten advice really if possible.

Got a kitten this week from the Cats Protection home, absolutely fantastic for the family, bags of energy (16 weeks old) and friendly and fun... infact he is on my lap now letting me tickle his belly :D

Anyway, we have a problem. Its nothing major but it could get that way, basically the last 3 days he has decided to poo in our bath... and not his litter tray which is downstairs.

Initially for the first 2 days he went fine in the litter tray and actually wee's in there no problem. Its just for the last 3 efforts, he decided to hop into the bath and leave me a nice present :(

So was just wondering what people think about it, in that how can I get him back to use his tray?

The tray hasnt moved, we decided to put it in the kitchen and thats were he was introduced to it. We also use the same wood chip pieces for litter that the home used. Now he does like to be upstairs, so would moving his tray be the better option, or would this confuse him at a young age?

In a sense its easy to clean out of the bath, but there could come a day where the carpet gets a dose which would not be ideal.

All tips welcome, ill pop a pic up of the lad later :)

Maybe he needed a number 2 whilst upstairs assuming that's where the bathroom is, maybe he just couldn't be asked to go downstairs or he just had to go :p

Closing door would be logical

Try keep him from going upstairs, keep doors shut etc. At 16 weeks he's still young enough to learn quickly so make sure the litter tray is clean and make him aware of its position by putting him in it every hour or so.

Generally with my 2 cats the only time an accident happens is when they are not well or the litter tray needs a clean badly (due to one of em having the squits!)

Yeah closing the door would be logical, but my thoughts on that would be... he could then go into my room and dump on my pillow as a revenge attack :D

Ill give that a go though and hope it forces him to make the walk down to the tray, just now he wee'd in the tray after his meal... so im hoping poo time comes in a bit and he is downstairs to do so.

Well you've got him going in the bath room just a little more training and you can get him going in the toilet!!!

No one else has mentioned it so it's worth throwing it out there, you mentioned the cats litter box is in the kitchen. Assuming the cat eats there aswell, the litter box may be too close to the food and it's not comfortable going there so he's found somewhere else.

Rub his nose in it, raise your voice (tell him off) and take him back to the litter tray and put him in it. Lock him in with the litter tray for an hour or so. He'll get the picture.

iirc to tran the cat to go in the toilet one guy made a little cradle that fitted in the toilet bowl then put the tray on that, once the cat got used to it he removed the tray and cradle and the cat just went in the loo :p

you can buy those trainers to make cats poo in the loo but i cant imagine my own cats ever learning. they just poo in nextdoors garden which is best for everyone ;)

anyway... shut the bathroom door. put litter tray next to door. gradually move it away from door

My ex-boss' cat used to pee in the toilet :D

However, your best bet is to move the litter box, shut the bathroom door and make sure his litter box is cleaned every day, if not twice a day.
