ATI Catalyst™ 10.5a Hotfix

ATI TEAM= ***** DRIVERS period (its how its been always) they need to shoot there driver production team...

According to your specs in sig you spent a load of cash on a 5970. Why did you buy it if the drivers are bad?

Nvidia would have been a better option?

10.3 - 10.4 no difference in BFBC2 loading times

10.4-10.5 no difference

10.5-10.5a HUGE HUGE difference - in fact I can't believe how much quicker it is

I didn't uninstall drivers between each new one

Same here with my 4890!!

Now I load a map in under 5 secs (I know because I am on the map and cannot spawn and get the tank cos of the very gay 15sec spawn delay on map load:().

Why do people still unistall old drivers or use driver sweeper . You just download new driver click install and it dose it all for you simples . Im sure half if not nearly all the problems people have are because they unistall old drivers or use driver sweeper.

I normally just install over, however if you read up the page a bit, it didn't fix the Battlefield issue. The drivers needed to be cleared off (either using ATI removal tool or Drive Sweeper) first.

That's absolute nonsense. There are certainly some issues with the 5xxx cards in certain systems, more so than the previous generation, but the drivers for the 4xxx series were rock solid. And when you read about the problems with nVidia cards - from overheating because of fan issues or frequently breaking game support - you realise that both sides have their problems.

Sweet, have just installed these drivers. Using a 4870 at the moment. BFBC2 loads so much more quickly now. With the old drivers it could take a good 30 seconds to get into a map, now it loads in 3 or 4 seconds.

I installed after removing the old ones and have experienced no problems.

Oh come on! It is never that cut and dry.

Well all I do is either install over the top or uninstall via add/remove, reboot and install new drivers.

I've NEVER had any issues whatsoever. If people are having problems, there must be a conflict within their rig, with either software or hardware.....

All the drivers I've ever had from ATI and nVidia have ALWAYS just worked.

Likewise, and totally agreed.

It's amazing how many times people will blame the software when in fact it's something to do with their configuration.

To be honest if people can't be bothered to read the release notes or my earlier post then they don't deserve a PC that runs sweet, ****'em. I am sick of repeating myself & sick of people blaming everything else when they obviously fall short when it comes to brains.

Why in the hell would you uninstall 10.5 and install 10.5a on a 5XXX series card? They don't do anything different, it is a fix for 4XXX and below series cards as they left the BFBC2 loading time fix out of the official 10.5 release.

LOL missed that bit :o

ah well sod it, reinstall for me ccc is totally screwed and wont run anylonger :( Lesson learnt read the release notes lol

Just installed 10.5 and worked fine but every time I restart my computer I cant use the aero application within windows 7. Its strange everytime I install any drivers for my card Aero activates then after restarting I lose it?
No update has fixed this problem, I've got a Asus ATI Radeon 4890. Any ideas?

Yes. Unistall the 10.5's & then instal the 10.5a's.
I have a 4890 running Vista Ultimate() so if I can instal & run them sweet Anybody can.

Had some initial problems with 10.5 forgetting the overscan settings via HDMI, seems to have sorted itself out.

I haven't been using catalyst on my main machine for a long time now, so forgive me if this is a stupid question, but how can you set up individual game profiles? I can't seem to see it bar using ATI tray tools. With the geforce drivers it's brilliantly simple and all the options are laid out for you, the CCC app seems to be laid out badly, with monitor config options being in two different menus and so on. They could make it a lot more easy to use imo. They could learn something from the forceware drivers.

I've had aero go off and on too after restarting, it also sorted itself out eventually. I don't think the ATI drivers like being clean installed for some reason, just seems to cause issues. I removed everything, went into safe mode and deleted everything related to it in program files etc and the registry, then reinstalled in normal mode (won't let you in safe mode). I've so far only used them on the 4350 in my HTPC, but I'll report back with how they are on my 5770 this week.

Can't see how you can say that when Usually you can just instal new ATi drivers over the last without a hitch not even a clean up.
These are the only drivers I remember where it specifically says uninstal the old First.
I'm not brand loyal at all, I am Pocket loyal, I've had Nivd & Ati cards over the years & have to say I've always preffered ATi drivers/cards.

I'd bet money that those having problems haven't got there Service packs up to date or are just lazy when they instal.

I'm always up to date with windows updates and all software. Don't see how you can be lazy when you install, there's only one method of doing so, and it's pretty easy tbh.

I would have installed over but I was already having issues with the 10.4 set and troubleshooting that, so I thought removal would be the best bet. What if you're installing to a clean OS? It should still work fine, just as a clean install should.

I still have to stand by my opinion that the geforce drivers are better. I'm moving away from nvidia and going ATI, as you said, better price/performance at the moment, I'm not stupid, I just prefer the other drivers.

Do you know if you can do game profiles?

Yes to the Profiles.

As for Fresh instals I would say that is the time most likely to catch people out. They instal windows then go to Update site, Do a few updates & things seem sorted then they go instal CCC & the drivers not realising that it takes a while for the update to kick the next Service pack down so they are trying to instal the CCC without the relevant service pack update.
Perhaps I am just cynical when it comes to PC's/Software but I Always look for User error first.
