The Book of Eli - Any comments/reviews?

Just watched it today, I actually though that it was a good film.
The music was good to, although if denzel wasn't playing the lead it
Proberly wouldn't worked as well

A solid 7/10

I find the comments on the music interesting as everyone I saw it with joked about how poor the soundtrack was to the film. It was rather repetitive and simple and at times felt lacking and overwhelming. It doesn't detract from the film but it definately doesn't add to the film like a good soundtrack can. :)

I read this thinking, my friends opinion was very similar to this, especially with the part about Man On Fire.

Then I realised... :D

Merrr etc :D

Oh sure, it wasn't fantastic like Dark Knight or POTC2 but it just had sombre bleak background music. To me it just gave some of the wasteland/solo wanderer scenes a bit more depth and feel, having an eerie undertone. I'm sure the first song you hear is some kind of remix of an Explosions in the sky song or something of the sort.

Went to see it last night, comments are fairly spot on.. 6/10 on artistic licence. Very much a directors vision film, storytelling and the scenes carry the film, the action realy just bolts it together. The problem with it, the 'bad guy/s' are so frickin narrow, no stand out from oldman or any of his tribe, so your stuck with the main folowing through the film.. half way through it, thats where the film starts to drag.

The twist/s at the end saved it for me, but realy all it needed was a better angle on the badguys to bring the film out of it closed skin.

Just watched this (not at the cinema, glad of that).

4/10 purely for the acting, action sequences and set design.

Character are 2 dimensional and horribly under developed, the story premise is just ridiculously bad and the ending "twist" ruined it for me. I literally said "WTF?" as the credits rolled and not in a "damn that was clever" way, in a "Oh you can't be serious....." kind of way.

Ah don't get me wrong something it was alright, but there was one particular peice that they kept repeating throughout the film that was just proper uninspiriing (spelling?) :D I'm gonna try and find it later so you all know!

I didn't think much of it at-all. But then I rarely do..

I was apprehensive, I'm not a Denzel fan, and although Mila Kunis strikes my core, being a huge that 70's fan, she just plays her max payne role again, which is a shame. The cinematography is lazy, and the post production is lazy as hell too, the whole blue tinge thing is played out now, let's just have some accurate colours, and the scene where they're crossing the broken bridge (no spoilers), the right half of the frame (as we look down over them and see the ocean) seems to be real footage, and the left, almost static, bad cgi. There's more of it too.
And the ending, I wont give it away obviously, but is it a homage?, or is it a rip-off? (don't answer that, it will be a direct spoiler, suffice to say, I wasn't sure, having seen the ending in another film). Overall - 4.5/10. More chewing gum for the eyes.

I saw it and thought it was alright. Nicely shot in some places but the storyline was a little bit too preachy to me. The storyline wasn't terrible but it wasn't fantastic like a lot of Denzel movies and it also felt rushed in some places. Some nice action scenes though.

I guessed what was going on half way through and had to stop myself leaning over and asking my bf "do you think..."

6/10

I thought the story was fairly decent, until the multiple twists were rolled out at the end and as someone above said, it just turns into "wtf, that is ridiculous" instead of "oh, that makes so much sense now".
Without spoiling much - having recently come across certain black and white japanese serialization of popular Eiji Yoshikawa novel featuring among other characters certain monk Morito, I kind of had this sense at some point during the movie that this is the general direction this story might go towards, but then the western on the main town street scene assured me that it cannot possibly go that way - it would be just ridiculous. But it did go that way. And it was ridiculous. Also the twist with preparation for final journey at the end, if it meant to imply what I think it meant to imply (and the twists are actually so badly presented that you never know), it actually moves the story into "spank me hard with shoe lace and call me Judy" ridiculous level. And for that 6/10. If it wasn't for Gary and Denzel, it would be 3/10.

I really liked this film. The action was good and I personally liked the different take on the story line making it about the last bible on earth etc. Its not something I have seen done before in this way. The twists id have to agree are a bit sloppy.

Still gets an 8/10 (+1) from me purely because my headphones were in the film (yay for mindless marketing!)

Might want to edit that ;)

Fully enjoyed this, really was not what I was expecting.

I though it was really good. 8/10 :)

You gotta see The Road if you like this sort of films.

The book of The Road is so much more bleaker and atmospheric.

Watched The Book of Eli last night and will give it a 6.5/10. As a lot of people have said. It's nothing more than alright

Saw this film a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it.

I would suggest watching in 1080p if you have the option as it looks stunning in this format.

The film itself, a decent enough story line and some great action makes entertaining viewing.
