I'm screwed right? [scammed on eBay]

Sorry, but why would ebay do that? They have no record of you making a payment and could simply be scamming them out of £135.

Hmm yeah, seems a little odd they'd just refund you despite you using a cheque. Unless you're a very regular eBayer and so £120 to keep you using it is a good deal to them?

Does seem very usual for them to do this, but certainly good that they did. When it comes to ebay I stick to some very strict rules when buying and would only sell particular items on there as they really do have poor seller protection on there.

Indeed, I think he just got shafted, twice!

Nope - eBay genuinely did send me the cash back.

I currently have the cash sitting in my PayPal account - ready to spend. Going to use the cash to buy the item again - from a more genuine seller.

Don't know why they did they had no reason to. I did phone them last week having a moan saying that I thought it was disgusting that someone who had done this previously had been allowed to have another account and do the same again. I don't know if that any bearing. I doubt it though.

I have been using eBay for years and never had any issues and wouldn't normally pay for anything by cheque. I just weighed up the odds on this one and decided to give the guy the benefit of the doubt - I mean why risk the trouble for £135? I have his address and there is paper trail from my account to his so its not entirely impossible to catch him. The other deciding factors for me to go through with it were, had 100% positive feedback - and a rating of 300, the photo of the item appeared to be real and not just stolen from a website and it wasn't an outrageously cheap price.

You live and learn its just a shame that you can't trust anyone these days.

Will still be reporting the scrote to the police, hopefully they'll be able to get his details via the bank and he'll get some form of punishment for it.

At least you got it back in the end, I had similar issues a few years back and eBay did manage to resolve the issue for me (the joy of their valued member helpline or whatever they called it) as a result I vowed only to ever buy using PayPal (which as come in handy with items not turning up once or twice), as much as everybody hates PayPal, other than cash on collection it really should eb the only way to pay, it protects both sides.
