How do I get rid of sticky residue?

Har har get the laughs out of the way from the thread title, but I removed the label off of a box (seems waterproof enough) with some warm water and effort, but the stickyness is still on there. What do I do to get rid of the stuff? Was from an ordinary sticky label that you'd commonly see.

Use white spirit or isopropyl alcohol.

IPA will get it off but it may strip the finish, I'd go with warm soapy water and a bit rubbing to clear it off personally.

IPA > * on well known auction site for a few pounds for a massive bottle. I used it to clean all the greasy finger prints off my plasma screen. Didn't even take the anti glare coating off. Awesome!

Tis cardboard with a good waterproof finish, it seems. Hasn't soaked a drop. I'll give the soapy stuff a try then move onto IPA if it doesn't work. Thanks.

Have you tried rubbing it for a while with your hand? Try it; you may even enjoy the process.

Zippo lighter fluid is pretty good at getting stuff off. Baby oil is as well.
