Silverstone Fortress FT02B

Took delivery of one of these today.

Moving from an 800D to this, I will post some photos & comments on the case later after I have built it.

:)

Cheers

Excellent, looking forward to this, will be great to hear from someone with first hand experience of both cases. The good cooling and build quality reported are two things I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on.

It has a large footprint due to the mobo orientation, this also allows for some of the best air cooling of any case. Not a lot of room for rads, although i have seen a few builds using the ft02 that are watercooled.

Ive got one, absolutely love it, spacious, quiet, looks amazingly sleek. About to put my nice shiny i7 bits in it this weekend, once I then replace my PSU ill get some pics of it up nice and tidy.

This is exactly my reason for considering it. If you're not going for full water then it seems to be the best air cooled option. I'd probably go for the 800D or a Lian Li if I was considering water. For my usage I think this will work a treat for a decent 24/7 overclock and low maintenance.

Design being different doesn't make something automatically superior...
My CPU temps in the RV02 are on par with the LL PC-B70, which to date has been the best air-cooling case I've used.

Good design is always needed for achieving good cooling and if design is half-assed just for the sake of complexity result goes toward opposite.
Going from the PC-B70 to the Raven, I GAINED(!!!) about 7 to 10* Celcius on my CPU temps

Interesting that the issue you raise was as a result of only 2 x 180mm fans in the Raven and as commented no fan underneath the CPU area. The Fortress has 3 x 180mm fans and one does cover the CPU area so maybe this explains the different results I have seen reported?

So far I've not seen any reason to doubt the FT02B cools very effectively...

Hi Guys

Just completed the build & its all up and running now :)

Very pleased with the case everything appears to be running al lot better the northbridge is 10 degrees cooler than the 800D setup that I had, & the cpu is sitting at around 30 degrees at idle my 920 is overclocked to 3.2, & the single 5870 is now idling at 24 degrees.

Only encounterd one major setback my second 5870 doesnt like being in a vertical position, the fan sounds like a tractor for some reason so that will be rma'd next week.

Fairly easy case to work on but space is a bit tight between the motherboard & the side panel so all the cables had to go in nice and flat, but the panel did fit first time :)

Photos to follow tomorrow, let me know what you think?

Cheers

Hi there

Its a 5870, got 2 in crossfire now fitted in the case.

About time I took some new photos & reposted them :)

Cheers

Oh is it.. oh right... yeah pics ;)
I have same psu and case of course. only thing im peed at, is i got to take the face grill off to fit my 5970, and it looks pants. i noticed on the red case, the fan grills look different, and have seen a 5970 in there with out the grill having to be taken out.. boooo hooooo lol someone give me them fans from the red case ;)

From memory they are a different type of fan in the red FT02 so maybe they are a bit slimmer than the ones in the standard black FT02.

I did spot some Silverstone blue 180mm led fans a few weeks back on another uk website.

So maybe they are available elsewhere .

Hope this helps either that or take the other fan cover off as well to match the one under the 5970.

Cheers
