Hi

Had my Q6600 die on me last week so managed to get hold of a E8400.

Will this run/oc well on my P5k-e ?

Im told i need P45 to get a good oc ?

Thanks

The e8400 has a x9 multi so the fsb will need to be pretty high to get big speeds.
P5k-e is a p35 chipset.

You will need an fsb of 444 to get to 4ghz which will need pretty decent ram capable of 900mhz. The p35 chipset is capable of 500mhz+.

Depends what you call 'good', but I would say 4ghz is easy with the right ram.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.
i have ocz pc2 8000 atm, will see what i can get it too.
when i say "good" oc im hopeing for around 4ghz +.

I have a gigabyte Ep45-UD3LR here with broken traces (where some caveman broke them fitting a pci card) so im haveing a go at repairing it today as i wait for my chip.

Thanks

My ocz gold is running at 450mhz right now, so you shouldn't have any trouble reaching 4ghz.

It can't get to 500mhz (1000mhz) without dropping the timings a lot and a little bit more voltage above 2.1.

Then your only issue really will be heat on the cpu at full load going passed 4ghz+

Iv had mine to 4.5ghz for benching sessions, but that was underwater, and was the old C0 revision, so need more volts.

So either of those 2 mobo's you have should be fine.

Thanks guys
I have decent custom wc so temps should be ok.
Will have a play when the chip arrives.
