Hi All,

I found this coin when I was about 8 years old - 13~ years ago now. I've always been curious as to what it is, but never took the time to find out.

It's pretty beaten up, but for above the shield it says "1586".

Anyone know?

No expert but if it is 1586 and the Elizabethan reign then it may be a sixpence or a groat.

To correct myself, it is definitely a an Elizabeth 1st, 1586 sixpence, as the threepence wasn't minted in 1586 (Only 1561–1577 & 1578–1582). So it is likely to be worth a bit more than £30-£50, although it is in fairly poor condition.

You can't trust the banks with a coin like this you best swallow it for the best savers rate without risking it being thieved.
