Hi,

Running an i7 930 at stock speeds with a Thermalright Venomous X plus Apache fan.

My idle temps are high 30's so around 37-40c, is this about right? On load I've yet to see it go over 59c.

The case is placed in quite a warm location to be fair.

Is the above ok?

I'm tempted to re-seat and re-apply the thermal paste, bit of a perfectionist :p Not sure if my first go was perfect.

Should I be expecting lower temps at stock?

Those are the regular temps for i7 930 at stock. I've been over it a hundred times here and on other forums and re-seated/pasted the cooler.
They just run hotter than some older chips.

At the moment mine is idling at 32C overclocked to 3.6 with venomous and one apache on push but it is a cool day today.
If you are running stock with auto volts on cpu you should be able to lower the vcore aswell for a bit lower temps.

Fair enough :)

I noted an increase in temps when I applied my RAM XMP, after the BIOS has set the RAM at 1066 instead of it's true 1600 Mhz.

Suppose that's down to the CPU memory controller right?

before watercooling mine as 920 and 930 are same

i have venoma too with 2 apolish maxs rpm
oc 4.0 ghz 191 @ 21 maxs temps with linx was 67

so man just go in bios an set voltage 1.0 u dont nee more for stock

Here's my CPU-Z report:

Do I need to change anything?

You can get away with running lower voltage for stock speed if the temp is bothering you.

My 920 would run happily at stock speed with 0.98 volts, only running 1.15 for 3.6ghz overclock too.

The XMP profile has probably raised your vtt in bios, mine does to 1.35v which I don't even need for 4.2ghz on my chip.

Note down the settings in bios, then change from XMP to manual and control the voltages yourself.

Still nothing wrong with those temps though

hey guy are u kidding normal temo with venoma stock hitting 59

what are u using for load, something is realy wrong here mate

men its too high

test with linx google it i had venoma just sold it month ago

drop the voltage to 1.0 its more than enough for stock

what thermal compound are u using

I would stick and see where it is in 7 days (especially if the difference over the 4 cores is slight (3-4c?)), in your own words it is in a warm spot.

If you are concerned just monitor temps.

Tried re-seating and fresh thermal paste, made little to no difference.

However, yesterday which was pretty warm it never went above 55c on any core whilst on load.

To me it looks like the idle temps are purely down to it's location whilst the load temps are showing that's the cooling is doing it's job?

Yep! Those temps are fine, nothing at all to worry about.
