Job issue, what to do?

So the guy who hates you at work has told you his masterplan to ruin the company you both work for. I thought only james bond villans were that stupid. Or hes setting you up for a facepalm moment.

Keep your gob shut and see what happens

Update: 01st June 2010 :p

Went into work and decided that it was Judgement Day and I found out this guy badmouths me all the time behind my back.

I got into work at 08:40am, due to start at 9am and I swear my heart was going to jump through my chest. I typed a few lines as I didn't know what else to do...

Boss name here

This might seem really strange but there is something I need to tell you that could potentially have a major impact on the company and us staff. When you're free, just shout on me and I'll come into your office, make it look like I've done something wrong and you need me to rectify it.

Well, 10mins later my boss comes out of his office and says that he needs to run a message and he needs me to drop the package into another office so I go with him and that's when he asked what the issue was. I spilled everything and he said that he had no idea and I'm unbelievably loyal to the company and he appreciates this a lot.

I was going to say to keep it quiet for a while and not mention directly to the guy who's leaving but then I thought 'No, why should it be kept Quiet? I'm not his friend and he could cause me losing my job'. Well, my boss went back to the office with me and he called the guy into office and that's when the guy handed in his notice (3 months). My boss accepted the resignation.

Everyone in the office said that if they were in my shoes, they would have done the same thing so I felt a bit better but the guy who's leaving has been giving me evils all day which is understandable but I'm not going to let anyone jeopardise my job.

My boss had a meeting with a couple of my colleagues in the afternoon and said that he can't believe how loyal I am to the company and that I did the right thing.

Sorry to the people who disagree for what I did but nobody but me can understand.

Tell him 'don't hate the playa, hate the game' and grab your nuts. He'll stop looking at you.

Good work, ya *******!

When you hear that lone, distant, gunshot come wafting into your room carried on a warm summer's eve breeze, know that his blood is on your hands. This didn't have to happen.

j/k Good job, maybe you could get a fighter pilot style kill marking chalked onto your desk or something.

It kind of changes the perspective if he was slagging you off. You want to ask for a raise and promotion. After all loyalty should be rewarded.

I agree 100% but times will be hard as he will be taking his customers with him after he finishes his notice and also, a second person gave their notice today (home issues) so the boss will need to advertise for more staff which will cost a bit (agencies ).

tbh... I'm surprised your boss is getting him to stay and work a 3 month notice period... would have thought that sending him home on gardening leave and getting his clients to stay with the firm would have been preferable.

That is true. The guy can spend his entire time farming his future clients, downloading customer lists, and bad mouthing his boss.

He's been told that he is not allowed to do any work (no answering the phones or going anywhere near a computer) and he will just have to sit there for the next 3 months. I find this to be torture and slightly immature but hilarious at the same time.

I did feel kind of bad when I told my boss because the guy who is leaving was caught of guard and it was like his heart sank but at the end of the day, his plan was very sly and I think he looked a bit funny because his 'plan' didn't work because I ruined it due to him bad mouthing me etc.
