I've searched the forums and not found anything on this so i'm starting a thread and asking are these things any good? I've never been to anything like this before so i've booked my ticket and accomodation today and hopefully it'll be an alright day out :)

Here's a link for anyone who's interested

Appearing: SAT/SUN
Autograph: £15
Photo Op: £15

You have to be kidding! I guess the days of simply queueing to meet a scifi personality are well gone.

Maybe it should be called cashcon?

Don't get me wrong, I like this kind of stuff. I once spent 4 hours in a queue to get a Neil Gaiman graphic novel signed and illustrated. It cost me nothing but time and was the best present I ever gave anyone. Cash for signatures just seems a bit wrong.

Not that I've ever been to a con', but I must agree. I thought the idea was you paid to get in and then had to suffer massive queues for autographs, but at least they were free?!? I'd love to meet Jonathan Frakes, but not if I have to pay 20 quid!

That actually looks utter balls, looks like a non-event just milk the fans, I can't think of one good reason to go other than paying money in entrance just to pay money to do anything. It's like buying a ticket to a football game and paying per goal...

I've come to the sad realisation that all the events like this in the UK are pretty bad. If you compare them to american cons they are usually a joke.

Having said that, if you're into such things it will probably be a fun day.

If you're going to pick up back issues then you may get some good deals but otherwise I don't see the point, the idea of getting an autograph off someone is alien to me let alone paying for one. Hope you enjoy it though mate

I know someone in work who goes to every one of these london cons, she told me a while back about how the sci-fi aspect had become completely corporate, want to be in the same room as mr/mrs important?, pay up. want to take a photo? pay up.
I gather the anime aspect of the show has remained pretty open and relaxed, with voice over actors wandering around the con and mingling with the public.

To be honest i'm not particularly bothered about getting anyones autograph and especially not paying for any, its all about the comic side and hopefully picking up some back issues and a few novelty things! Apparently theres going to be a video games part to the convention too but whether thats any good we will wait and see! I hope im not the only one who’s there who’s not fat and has a beard and pony tail ha ha!
