I reckon with a real mission they should be given access to the internet. The 20 minute ping would cause havok with their BF2 score though!

Nah i think wow has built in latency filters for that sort of lag so they should be good.

Sounds amazing but the human brain will be like "i have to split" 520 days and nothing to show but some results, missing out on nearly 2 years for research a bit different than actually going to Mars.

tbh any mission to Mars will always have danger from human or mechanical or electrical error and will take some amazing humans to do it and succeed but when you are in a space ship going one way, you have to sit it out.

Also the biggest factor is being in orbit for 520 days that this does not execute.

The fact they aren't actually going anywhere is the morale killer. The fact they can just go "I want to leave", walk through a door and be back in the real world is going to play havok with them.

Interesting article though. I can only imagine the way such a thing would mess with your head, not to mention they must be rather brave/crazy to volunteer to be the first people to attempt Mars and back.
