Is Life to Short?

you will be cycling in heaven buddy

Aye, if there is a heaven.

I don't think any of that exist, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Life is too short, I think that people who say otherwise are clinically depressed or are assuming that you would end up like Gandalf or something, when in reality any life extension would be the result of a slowing of the ageing process affording you more of the younger years. Everlasting youth is far off, but clearly exists in a number of other species and could be applied to humans in the future.

What species is everlasting youth present in? And if it is everlasting, why do they die?

A variety of species from simple animals such as the Hydra genus to more complex animals such as turtles.

And if it is everlasting, why do they die?

They are killed by things like disease, starvation, physical trauma or predation. The chance of avoiding those factors for hundreds of years is very unlikely. Though one of Darwins tortoises lived to be 176.

I think this phrase applies well to people scoffing about the practice of tattoos. Your body is disposable at the end of the day.

I think its scary how fast time goes by now that im a bit older. When i was a child a year seemed like it was 5 years packed into one, now a year seems to flyby pretty fast.

Life is NOT too short IMO, funny enough only earlier today I was thinking ' aah well another 20 years and it'll all be over ' - just a rough guess of course ( I'm 40 now which is depressing in itself ), cant help thinking life just gets worse the older you get.

EDIT : Couldnt agree more with the above post

Over the last few days i've heard "Life is too short" like 15times.

The question is. Is it?

Like an average person lives for like what 26,000 days.... Is that really not enough.

What you think? Comment below :D
Life is just long enough to learn to stop using "like", like, all the time ;)

Life is long enough.

Life is way too short imho.

I'd love to live forever, or at least, idk, 400-500 years?

just don’t waste it away and live it to the full.

Some people ( like me) take longer to realize this and act on it ( easier said than done) though.

I'd love to live long enough to see people colonizing other worlds.

Sat here mulling over it and typing on OCUK is not living.. Get out and enjoy it for real or one day you will switch off the PC to find you're a pensioner :D

(and yes I do see the Irony in this) :(

the sweet would never be as sweet without the bitter...

In theory the idea is nice, think about how much you could see and do in say 500 years? see all the changes that the world go through in that time.

That being said, if there was no end whatsoever so we lived forever we'd be looking for ways to end our lives I think. Eventually, you'd just have enough probably.

I'd definately like to be around for 500 years or so, or at least just until space exploration becomes normal. I'd give anything to travel the stars even for a day.

lol just read your response snowdog, scary how similar our responses were!

I think with 500 years of advances in neurology and genetics, negative emotions like that would be banished. ;)

But turtles move very slowly and hardly do anything, that's probably why they live so long, I bet if we had a healthy lifestyle, but did as little as possible we'd probably live for well over 100 years.

I'd like about 500 years also (assuming I was kept in a good state of health, no more than a few grey streaks) - So I could learn about more stuff, get good at more stuff, see how the world changes and marvel at the technological advancements. It would be cool to travel in space, but I expect the reality would get rather monotonous and boring, so I think Mars and back when we can do the round trip in about a year would be good fun, don't think I'd enjoy going on longer trips...

In the past few years I have noticed how time does seem to speed up as I get older - I could hardly believe it when 2009 was over - it felt like only a month ago it was 2008... A bit scary, only now do I understand 'life is too short' - a few years ago, a year seemed to go on for ages and 60 years seemed like a ...lifetime? but now 60 years only seems like about 10 years... lol? But yeah, I want to live longer to see more stuff and do more stuff, hopefully make a positive difference to other peoples lives.

its not too short when you're at the early years, its plenty too short when you're at the late years.

I guess i'm not quite half-way, and i'd say it gets faster the older you get...
