OK, I'm sure this is really simple but I've only been using ITunes for two days and this is doing my head in. I purchased a couple of songs using my IPod Touch today, but how do I get the IPod to transfer them onto my PC? I thought it might do it automatically but obviously not.

I've got to say I'm absolutely hating ITunes. This was the number one reason I've never bought an Apple product before and its obvious my fears are coming true. Is it possible to use another app to sync/transfer music and still use ITunes for apps only?

Can't answer your first question, but I use Sharepod. Drag and drop :)

Cool, that looks like what I need. I'm assuming you can still use ITunes for apps without problems?

OK, Installed Sharepod and looks perfect for me, but doesn't help me with getting my purchases from my IPod to my PC. None of my purchased tracks are appearing in Sharepod, presumably some kind of DRM?

So how do I get these tracks onto my PC?

Loving the IPod Touch, but I certainly won't be buying any more of my music from ITunes. Why do Apple have to make things so difficult!!

Tracks purchased on the ipod touch should sync to itunes when you sync the touch. Have you got it set to automatic or manual?

This is where I'm confused. I've got it set to manual as I have 80GB of music and only an 8GB iPod. If I set it to auto, how does that work? It it just a case of ticking items in my audio library and then syncing? And the same in the iPod, if I tick my new purchases they'll get synced to my PC?

I'm just a bit nervous about this as I had to do a factory reset on the iPod last night to try to fix a problem, but I didn't realise I'd lose all of my non-synced music (I'd bought the Faithless album yesterday so lost that and had to purchase again).

Thanks.

I've tried syncing by ticking all of the songs on the iPod and pressing Sync but my purchases still aren't showing up on my PC, although apps I downloaded today have synced OK.

I tried to tick the Sync button for automatic sync but it tells me all music on the iPod will be deleted which is exactly what I don't want to do.

This really is doing my head in, how hard can this be to do?

I don't understand why its not doing it but on my iPod when I bought an album last night, I plugged the iPod into my pc and it automatically synced the new purchase from the iPod onto my pc (it was under a new purchased playlist heading called purchased on "youripodnamehere" iPod).

I haven't fiddled with any itunes settings

Definitely don't have that playlist. They're on my iPod under Purchased but no sign of them anywhere else.

Can anyone confirm what the ticks next to each song are for. I've unticked a few on the iPod and synced but they're still on my iPod. Is that right?

OK, found it. Knew it would be something simple. There's an option under the File menu Transfer Purchases From iPod.

Thanks guys.

Sorry I didn't reply again.

But yeh, I just use Sharepod for music, and then use iTunes for apps :)

glad you got that sorted - for future reference, you can re-download purchases from the itunes store, as the purchase information is stored on Apple's servers with your account info.
