So yesterday I replaced my full beam bumbs with Osram Nightbreakers and new parking bulbs.

Took me over an hour as I had to decide...
1: how to reach the bulb socket on the passenger side (air box in the way)
2: how to unattach the bulb sockets and put them back in

anyway I eventually figured out how to take out the airbox and connect the bulbs, all is ok and I put everything back and everything seems to be fine.

I'm now strutting my stuff in front of my wife, ensuring she is aware of the uber manliness in her presence. All is well

On the drive in to work however, the cruise control does not turn on. No lamp is lit and it doesn't work. Radio buttons on the wheel work fine.

So I'm reading about it now and some people suggest the MAF is faulty or not working - I'm not 100% sure I plugged it back in  so that's an easy fix but then how the heck did I drive 6 miles and everything else was 100% ie idling etc was fine?

Aaaarg something bizarre always has to go wrong when I fiddle with stuff - can anyone please help? I will check the MAF is all plugged in at lunch until then *stress*

The car reverts to a default "safe" map when the MAF is disconnected, so that's why it would still run "ok".

It turns out I forgot to plug the MAF sensor back up *facepalm* reconnected and now cruise control working ok :)

However, now I have a bulb out warning come up on the dash for the rear lights

I'll have a look when I get home and let you know - probably need to make a stop at halfrauds for required tools as I don't own much :(

drove home and everything was fine with no bulb warning light :)

back at home I checked the rear cluster connectors and indeed both brown earth wires show signs of burning so i'll do the fix linked to above, just need to order some scotchloks, pliers and some 18awg wire and hopefully that's sorted because after I cleaned the steering wheel following this diy, I turned car on and saw that both rear lamp warning lights are now illuminated :(

Called the wife down so I could check all rear lights and all are working, bright and with no flicker (same as fronts)

Check the indicators?

Mine's really annoying me now - i have to keep stopping and fixing it! It stays fine for a few months, then will start being crap for a while, then be fine for another couple of months. I keep thinking "ohh i've got to fix this" then the lights are fine for a while so i don't bother.

This weekend!

doh! didn't check indicators although I did check licence plate lights
will have a look tomorrow but I'm sure they are ok

I also had the rear light warning on my car. I changed the internal boot light as one had gone and it's been fine ever since (for about 9 months now). If it breaks again at least I know the fix :)

ok my pliers, scotchlock wire splices and female spade connectors arrived today. I did both rear lights and now no rear bulb out warning lamps appear and all indicators work :D (left rear indicator didn't work and that side blinked faster - lol people behind me probably thought I was a typical non indicating bmw driver)

Also fitted the flat aerotwin wipers that wiperblades.co.uk sell and topped up with half a litre of castrol edge - God I feel so manly right now, go on, touch me
