Hi

I have just finished reading the first book in the series, The Gunslinger, and it was superb. Despite many people saying it's a difficult book to read as it was one of the first books that Stephen King wrote, I found it very enjoyable, it takes a few chapters to pick up the pace but once it gets going it's fantastic.

I just wanted to see what other peoples opinions of this book series are, without any spoilers if possible, which I know will be difficult. I plan to pick up The Drawing of the Three soon, as I think this is a series which I will definitely enjoy.

Its a fantastic series and books 2,3 and 4 are superb it kinda loses it a bit in book 5 and i find 6 to be unreadable but it regain's it with book 7.

Awesome books. Im about 100 pages into the last one atm. Have read everything by Stephen King and love all his books.

massive stephen king fan and have tried to read most of his books. Bit shocked they aint done a movie of the dark tower series as of yet. Still time

Never seen these books before :(

Just did a google on them, look interesting, I'm looking for a nice long series of books to read.... Only read a few of King's books over the years, some good, some ok from what I remember.

Anything these would compare to story/world/character wise?

I started reading them based on the fact that I'm a big Lost fan and Lost apparently takes a lot of influence from them, and they share some similarities etc.

I haven't read enough of the series yet to be able to compare it to another book series.

Read them years ago. Not difficult to read at all compared to his other work. I enjoyed it.
Don't think I ever read the last one though :(

Best story ever told, bar none.
After the books were finished I felt as if I had lost friends as I'll never read any more stories about them. Simply amazing - the first book was ok ... its only gets better!

Long Days and Pleasant Nights demolition!

That's exactly how I felt after finishing the series... and after the last book I went and read the first book again.
...Ka is a wheel....

Never seen an episode of Lost :D

I'll put these books on my Amazon wish list and pick up the first book next time I order.

I must say I really struggled with Gunslinger tbh. I read the book cover to cover but I just could not get into it.

So I didnt bother getting the rest of the books.

Maybe I will have to re-visit it at somepoint.

The Gunslinger can be a bit of a struggle at times i would pick up the 2nd book, that's were the series really took off for me.

I have been a fan of Kings older work. His new stuff sucks though (with the green mile an exception) so have over looked it or ignored it. Been looking at the Dark Tower recently and it looks good so might have to take a look. There are rumours about King getting in on making a series.

From http://www.stephenking.com/darktower/
"Stephen has announced that he has an idea for a new Dark Tower book, the working title of which will be THE WIND THROUGH THE KEYHOLE. He has not yet started this book and anticipates that it will be a minimum of eight months before he is able to begin writing it."

...that this novel should be set between the fourth and the fifth books of the series...

I was thinking of picking up a Dark Tower book.

As you say the 1st one is a little worse, would jumping in to the 2nd one be difficult to pickup on existing storylines?

should be ok, I started on the one where the gunslinger loses his fingers to the lobstosaties..

I think thats the 2nd.. unless the gunslingers story of how he got to the beach is a later book to give more background??
