I just popped into my local GAME (because I had a day off and couldn't wait)and bought Dragon Age: Origins and noted that they had moved the PC section.

It is now half the size it used to be and languishing in a corner at the very back of the shop. At the checkout I mentioned this to the young whippersnapper manning the till and he said that PC game sales are dwindling for them.

I've never been much of a fan of consoles (except for football games a driving stuff). So is that a worthy conclusion by the GAME fella? Or is it just high street sales that suffer due to more and more online retailers having a piece of the pie?

Have we met our quote for pc doom and gloom threads this week?

Most PC gamers know that GAME is almost certainly NOT the place to go if you want a good deal. Console gamers will buy any old **** for any price.

PC games have never had much of a shelf presence relative to console games. Going back 10 years or so. The old places that used to stock games like Woolworths, WHSmith, Virgin Megastore, HMV etc have always had more console games on show.

The market is smaller for starters and like has been said digital delivery has grown dramatically over the last few years, it doesn't mean it's shrinking or dying (well, maybe in the brick and mortar stores anyway). It just means people have this negative perception because they're are bombarded in popular media, websites and through advertising on TV, magazines, online and at point of sale through displays (and buying shelf space) by the huge marketing efforts console manufacturers and console games publishers put into their next 'best ever' (until the next one) game.

Why would Valve / Steam (and Telltale Games) just spent all that money on mac-verting their catalogue if no-one but console owners are going to buy games???

GAME shops are terrible these days (the ones I've been in recently, at least). My local GAME store has console games on the shelves around the wall and a sorry looking stand in the middle of the floor containing a few overpriced PC games.

In short, no; people just buy them elsewhere.
