Are PC games dying out?

I just popped into my local GAME (because I had a day off and couldn't wait)and bought Dragon Age: Origins and noted that they had moved the PC section.

It is now half the size it used to be and languishing in a corner at the very back of the shop. At the checkout I mentioned this to the young whippersnapper manning the till and he said that PC game sales are dwindling for them.

I've never been much of a fan of consoles (except for football games a driving stuff). So is that a worthy conclusion by the GAME fella? Or is it just high street sales that suffer due to more and more online retailers having a piece of the pie?

PC Gaming has been dying since 2003, and since the Xbox 360 came out, its took a massive nose dive.

no i agree, this last lot of consoels have destroyed pc gaming! it was so far ahead, the graphics, the mass online play!

Now all we got is ports like MW2 with P2P online play!
AWFUL ****!!!!

downloads are slowly taking over retail 'shop' sales, maybe already overtaking

(i mean steam not pirating, however this is also going strong) :)

No, in general its not dying (yet) but what has nose-dived is AAA PC exclusives that take advantage of the latest hardware...

I bet the Sims franchise and WoW account for most of the PC sales/revenue the last 5 yrs or so. How sad.

Steam Weekly Deals - That is why we don't buy from shops anymore! And free-to-play games that are strangely addictive, like Battlefield Heroes and Battleforge.
Besides, can you see them porting Eve Online to XBOX?

FFS you coulda posted this thread before I forked out over a grand for the PC in my sig just over two weeks ago. You'da saved me a lot of moneh!

I love that picture with PC Gaming. It's Dead.

:D

But no, PC gaming rocks. It is just that people buy PC games online, in normal shops or digital ones. I do not know anyone who goes to shop physically and buys a game.

Im just RTMing these now. It's getting ridiculous.

I've asked for a sticky, so at least we dont have to suffer a new one every 3 days.

If PC games are dying it would be great if someone could explain to me just how I manage to spend on average 14 hours a week PC gaming

I had a 360 and sold it, why? Because most of the titles were out on PC but better graphics and cheaper so I sold my 360 which I only owned for 4/5 months

Why do AMD/ATI and Nvidia continue to release GPU's, why do people spend £££££££'s on gaming hardware, I just spent £15 on a mouse mat, why?

Come on, seriously, some people need to think about what they are saying when they PC gaming is dead, its actually the total opposite you just dont know where to look you're blinded by marketing crap IE go to GAME and buy the 6th installment of an already tired franchise

Substitute "music" with "pc games" then cry yourself slowly to sleep.

After that wake up and realise that PC games will never die so long as the Internet is still alive.
