Deaths as Israeli forces storm Gaza aid ship

I don't think it's deliberate, you may also notice his grammar isn't the best, I'm sure he's explained this before.

I think it is deliberate when it is constantly spelled like that. Check his other posts too, the guy is literate.
Anyway, let's move on. :D

I guess the biggest irony of this whole episode is that most of the people on these ships "saving their Palestinian brothers" in Gaza are Turks.

It was the Turks that ruled that place with a rod of iron for centuries, refused to allow an independent Palestine to exist and ensured through mismanagement and basic neglect that the people came out of their occupation no better off than they went into it centuries before.

An occupation ended through the sacrifice of thousands of British and Commonwealth troops in WWI for which the Israelis thank us by forging our passports for us in assassinations and the Palestinians thanks us by virtually inventing modern terrorism.

We should have left them to the Turks to run as their 13th century colony.

Well that was the Ottoman Empire rather than the modern Turkey. The country created by Ataturk bears little or no resemblance to the Turkey of the Ottoman Empire, much as Iran doesn't to the Persian Empire and Israel doesn't to The Kingdom of Israel.

The point is that it is not ironic. What is ironic however, is your accusation of pointless posts in light of your constant beration of contributors typographical and grammatical mistakes. That is pointless and irrelevant to thread.

That's awesome.

Israel can rebrand itself as South Levant, give Gaza to the Egyptians and in a mere few decades can be telling them how they need to suck it up when the Palestinians get all uppity again.

Which they will. They tried to overthrow the Jordanian government when they were guests there, which got them expelled from that country. We don't like to talk about that though, its only the Zionists that are in conflict with the oppressed Palestinians.

Why rebrand itself using 15th Century French terminology. Besides it was a cultural term rather than a specific geographical one. They may as well just rename themselves Outremer, Canaan, Zion or how about Palestine. all would be accurate for the region.

I suppose that as justifications for killing Gazans/Palestinians go, " If we don't do it, they'll only get uppity in a few years" is as valid as any other. :p

Its great being Turkish. You can oppress the whole middle east for centuries, be defeated in a world war, become a "different country" while keeping the same language culture and customs, murder millions of Armenians (which is something they STILL deny doing) and nobody calls you a hypocrite for loudly supporting Palestinian self determination while simultaneously brutally denying Kurdish self determination !

There is literally NOTHING they can't get away with !

Israeli forces have seized an Irish-owned ship bound for Gaza, boarding the Rachel Corrie close to the Gaza shore.

"The ship has been boarded and there was full compliance from the crew and passengers on board," a spokeswoman for the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) said.

The IDF says no helicopters were used and there were no reports of violence.

It says the boat will be brought to Ashdod Port where goods will be inspected and transferred to Gaza via land crossings.

The move came after the Rachel Corrie refused to respond to four requests from the navy to head for the southern Israeli port of Ashdod, and stayed its course for the Gaza Strip.

Life is so simple is when everyone agrees to play nicely.

I imagine only because those on board didn't exercise their 'right' to attack the boarding soldiers without consequence...

(irony)

It's scrolling across the Sky News banner that the Turkish PM intends to join a 'Gaza Aid Flotilla' and sail to Gaza, guarded by Turkish Warships  Surely that won't end well.

well tbh.. someone needs to break the blockade or Israel needs to sort itself out - tis one thing to search for weapons etc.. tis completely another to stop basic food supplies/building materials from getting through.

Israel is saying that they will let aid through so long as it goes through ashdod and is checked by their own people. I don't know how far you can trust them with regards to this though given their recent history of breaking just about every international law you can think of.

Has Hamas let the aid through then yet?

The problem is that they will let Aid in, but the draconian policy on WHAT aid they will let in. Gaza needs building materials, yet they are banned, luxury items are banned, electronics and electical items banned, chocolate banned, generators banned, petroleum extremely limited, Basic foodstuffs limited and so on.

While some items can be used to make weapons, cement and chocolate ate not among them.

this is the problem tbh...

the stuff they aren't allowing through is ridicules - if they were just stopping weapons and associated military equipment then that would be perfectly reasonable - the fact is they're enforcing an economic blockade and are trying to stop anything that would benefit the Palestinians economically

the blockade either needs to be broken or Israel needs to seriously change its policy on Gaza
