Just rang up Sky to cancel my contract seeing as the 12 months is nearly up.
Had the salesman really try to make me stay and force me into saying my 12 months has already been renewed, good job I had a bad day at work so was ready for a fight lol :D

He took my details and said someone from the cancellation team would ring me within 5 days to process it and so i'll get the 30 days notice.

Does this sound normal procedure or do I need to ring them again in a day or so?

Umm I don't think when you renew it is a new 12 month contract. At least mine wasn't - just a rolling 30 day (been with them for about 5 years). I phoned up and cancelled it without a problem as I went to Freesat instead.

thanks for the deply duke, had a feeling the salesman was giving it his final attempt to keep me.

did you cancel there and then on the phone or did you need to get a phone call back like they told me?

When I cancelled it happened there and then. Well, after him trying to give me discounts to stay. What was funny was that I wanted it the service to stop within a few days and he said that I would have to pay for the next 30 days which was some 30 odd pounds. I said ok, but cancel all the extensions to the package such as sky sports and sky movies. He said ok, did some calculations and said that actually now they owed me 15 quid :p and I should call them to collect it after 3 weeks or something.

You shouldn't need a phone call back, I suspect the guy didn't want his churn figure to suffer and has made an excuse to get you off the phone. I'd ring back and if you still aren't getting anywhere the foolproof cancellation method is writing a letter.

When I went through to cancellations it took me an hour an a half to get the person to cancel my contract. They will do anything to keep you.

How many times can a person say "no"?

I'll ring back again today to make sure.

He was actually lying to say I'm in a new contract with them so can't leave. Luckily I had all my invoices infront of me so I told him I cant actually be in a new 12 month contract with Sky Talk yet as I only got activated in September 2009. Quickly shut up when I had all the facts :)

Amazing what lengths they will go to.

I think I rang the customer service number, pressed the numbers to get to cancellations. But I'll try again today.

Cancellations can be done there and then on the phone. I did it last year. (It took a few mins, be firm, show that salesman who's boss ;) ) Not missing Sky a jot, and saving £50 a month. Happy days.

Thanks, not sure if I'll be saving as much as that but I'll be getting better value for my money. Better internet service and more TV channels for few quid less

I cancelled yesterday and was cancelled on the phone, didnt have to wait for a call back.

Just told them i was moving and new home had sky already (true), but she said about 5 times "and your leaving because your moving home and it already has sky", when you say that they have nothing they can say to keep you, so no hassle.

Yep just did it there and then as others have said as well. I was already on a 25% discount from pondering about leaving before but decided to just leave this time and it only took 5 mins.

Just ring them up and tell them you want a better deal or you're leaving, straight through to cancellations.
It's what happened to me when I rung up to get a deal available to new customers baring in mind we've been with sky for god knows how many years. Cancelations didn't even try and keep me, took about 10 attempts to get the upgrade.

My Sky TV/internet/phone was cancelled over the phone in about 10 minutes, just told them I'm cancelling & not changing my mind and the lass just cancelled it, no hassle. Git's still took £32 this month though, gotta sort that out!

5 calls to cancel / check the cancellation had been processed AND a letter to sky ..... yet they still charged me £85 for the next month. They then had the nerve to claim they couldn't refund me for 10 working days ... which became over a month and a half and several calls before we finally got the money back.

What makes it more ridiculous is that I only had Sky because we won a competiton to have full sky (phone, broadband and TV) for a year.
After spending all that money running a promotion aimed at gaining new customers they just made damn sure that I'll never go with Sky again!

Well just rang up, 30 mins on the phone to cancel.

Really get on my nerves the way they speak to you. Cant believe you want to leave us when we offer such a great service was this persons fav line, said it about 10 times!!!

Well as far as I know it is cancelled. But then again I have a feeling they might be fobbing me off again, as she said she's sending a form in the post and will call back Monday...

What do you guys think?
