I'm 14 atm and look ahead to my future (car) and running some quotes as though I was 17 , Third Party fire and theft , added both parents. the car im running quotes on is a petrol 1.25 fiesta. And the cheapest quote was £2800 , this seems insanse! its more than the car is worth.

Is this quote right? and thats the cheapest I have had so far , it was in £3800/900 region for a mondeo

Quote is probably right, you can probably do better... BUT the insurance market will likely be completely different in 3 years. If the economy fixes itself insurance products will likely be cheaper, if not then we're all screwed :)

No doubt you'll just end up fronting like everyone else.

or just not bothering like an awful lot of people. Hey, there's a bonus there though, no insurance means you don't have to bother to tax or mot it either! :p

Seriously though, I understand the reasons for insurance going up, but when it's that high do they really expect young drivers to pay? Oh wait, thats right..... they'll just leave it down to the police to sort out. They'll get a ban, which will further increase their premium, which means they certainly can't afford the insurance, which leads to a "nothing to lose" attitude from the youngsters. Lets face it, you can't lock them all up, there's no room! Oh and a slap on the wrist means nothing when ASBO's are seen as a badge of honour.

Sigh.... that's REALLY depressing reading that back. I'm 31 (just) and now feel really old. :o

You can only hope less young males crash, maybe insurance prices will drop.

Either that, or have a sex change since im sure you would save money in the long run to cover the op :P

I'd say those are a bit high actually. I'm only 19 now, so 2 years ago when I was 17, my insurance for my first year's driving was £1400, on a 1.1 106 with both parents as named drivers. My friends all got insurance for around the same price, depending on car etc obviously (apart from the girls, who were just laughing...).

Lots of folk have been noticing rates shooting up in the last 6 months or so. Insurers are becoming a little more cautious.

If we can have a big swing in 6 months we can having anything in 3 years. Its not just down to accident statistics, insurers make a large chunk of their money by investing your premiums which is reflected in the general economy. Economy sinks and they have to make up their money elsewhere (increased premiums) If the economy recovers then they can reduce the cost to the motorist, lots of insurers out there so hopefully a bit of competition will make them compete on price.

Although, maybe 3 years is a bit ambitious to see a huge slow insurance company turn around :)

Start saving now though and i'm sure you can have enough for a car and insurance.

Its funny you say that, I know a nipper that drove around with no licence or insurance for around 3-4 years. In this time he was caught something like 3 times. Each time he was caught, he went to court, got a 12 month ban and something like £150 fine.

So in 4 years, he has spent a maximum of £450. Most people spend more than that passing their test, much less insuring and taxing a car for 3-4 years.

It makes you think, why do you bother? What is £150 and a ban when you haven't really got a licence to lose and have no insurance to pay?

Without trying to patronise, dont bother trying.

Youre 14. Theres a lot could change in the next 3 years and youre wasting your time.

EDIT/ Why do you want a mondeo at 14/17? :S

Aye, and the Insurance Co's, Police, Gov don't seem to give a toss. It's the rest of us that just end up paying more. :(

No disrespect to the OP, but a lot of youngsters are fronting or not insuring at all. So fair play for wanting to be insured and legal. :)

Seriously though, it's a bit early to be looking into this, simply because in 3 years time it'll probably be double that!

Using gocompare.com and that was the cheapest quote to pop up.

That's your problem, the comparison sites always give crazy prices for young drivers.

Go to Bell, Admiral or Elephant and do a direct quote with your parents added.
