'New' car advice

You have a 10k watch?

And you felt the need to tell up this? :p

It isn't 10k my astra is only worth around 2k. I just don't feel particularly proud (poor me) when I drive it with everything else I have. It has no real relevance I guess to the thread but just pointing out what I think sometimes.

I might need to step back and think of the budget situation more carefully since it seems so fundamentally important. It is just I can spend up to 50k but happy to spend less. I don't have a set in stone budget because I wanted to be guided by what was out there in the range.

I don't really like the audi tt or the BMW 3 series.

 :( I'm confused.

So basically you have up to 50k, but you would be fine with a 10-20k car. It's not like 10-20k get's you a banger, but 50k gets you a Ferrari Enzo.

If i was you, who just sounds like you want a nice car with a bit of poke and good looks - how about something like an Audi TT-S?

Actually, until you narrow down your budget, i could list about a hundred cars which are goodlooking, have a bit of poke and are between £0-£50,000.

What is your top three in that range?

1) Pick a limit, cost wise, no finance = better but up to you.
2) Pick min number of seats (looks like 4 from your posts)
3) Any marques you have a preference of? Merc / Aston Martin (guessing this one's hard under 5 years and under 50k?)
4) Wouldnt bother too much about fuel economy if your spending up to 50k. Tbh the less you spend, the less important mpg becomes (i'd wager) if your budget really is around 50k
5) 2/4 doors important to you?
6) TEST DRIVES. If you love cars, drive some and get a feel of what you want out of your next car.

You're still coming across far too vague, but an E90 M3 is screaming at you. Test drive one. MY 2008, 30-38k?

Edit: Ya dont like 3 series. Still, drive an M3...just to confirm.

I will give your points some thought and post back with what I come up with. I thought finance, leasing was pretty common with
nice cars? And cash was more rare ( at least from speaking to some friends)?

I was a little hesitant to go for test drives in Mercedes or Porsche garages until I did more research. I was worried they wouldn't take a 25 year old scruffy guy in jeans seriously... But it's no different to the Internet I guess :)

By all means finance, but if you can avoid it, it would sit well with this forum :)

Oh don't post stuff like that.

Even if that was true, I'm sure the OP doesn't give a crap if people from teh internetz approve of him financing his car.

It's when people take out 10k loans, with 45% interest for a 5 year old 1.2 Clio that they get called a div.

Noted for future potentially humour fail posts.

Good. I think it is, but we really need more details from you as to what you want if we're to able to be a help, rather than a hindrance!

Don't worry, at least you're not turning up in a Vauxhall Astra...:o:D

Would I be mocked further if I asked who would win in a fight:

1. Mercedes cls
2. Porsche Cayman
3. BMW m3
4. An older BMW m5....

Bank the cash/invest it.

Spend Sub 10k on a run about and come back to your previously saved money when you have some kind of idea of what you want from a car and a general idea of where your money is going to go.

50k is a SHOCKING amount to dump on a new car when for all you know it's going to be unsuitable in 5 years time and have taken a massive depreciation hit. You spend 50k on a car when you plan to keep it in a garage for a long time and have it put a grin on your face and make you feel warm inside for years and years.

This is a price point that comes commonly in to effect when purchasing that dream car, or the one you aspire to own. Not have 50k and then work it out.

No.

It will probably be driven between 2-5k miles a year with little motorway action. I guess I want something that looks good and has decent specs.

It would also be nice to have a bit of a boot and space for more than 2 people.

M3 out of them. Test drive them all.

Have you suddenly come into money or something? Just seems odd that you've been running about in an Astra.

So what is important to you, prestige, performance, or both?

If all else fails just ask Spie would be my advice.

And since you flush with cash, do us a favour and buy Iand a car with your pocket change, you'd be doing everyone a favour ;) ;)

Is there a clear winner/superior car out of those four? I know it will most likely just depend on need, but is one miles better than
any of the others?
