Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

Thats another thing guys, I dont know why you are playing the first to 3 during elimination games? I mean we're not in tournaments anymore, so why dont we change to first to 2? Gives people a chance who are watching to play more often no?

It is first to 2 in tournaments.

If you're referring to the vids that hyv posted - i'm pretty sure all those matches were in a 2-man lobby.
I get your point though. With 3 players in a lobby, a best of 5 is borderline acceptable, and only if you know the other 2.

If the game has an empty shell, then I presume you are speaking about the mechanics of the game.

So then how will a 'feature' such as tournament mode (which will in no way shape or form change the mechanics of the game), "change things for the better"?

Capcom have hit the nail on the head with SSF4 and it feels like a true and proper successor in the Street Fighter series. Going 3D, but keeping true to its form.
i dont really feel the need to discuss this, like i said each to their own. sf3 was a lot more technical in pretty much every sense, tbh the thing that ruins the experience for me is the ultra combos which take away a lot of skill, and the recent inclusion of some badly balanced characters in ssf4 who are either pointless or overpowered.

Well by stating your opinion and then saying you dont feel the need to discuss this, makes it a kind of one sided argument dont you think? Fully respect your opinion of each to their own but that doesnt mean we cannot air our views.

You mentioned Ultra combos, SF3 had ultra combos in them, what makes it different?

With regards to the characters, I feel that the game just has too many characters in the game.

No no Im referring generally, or at the very least whenever I have had games with OCUK folk in SSF4 (I havent played you yet in SSF4 Arth).

Mind you I remember even our games we're set to best of 5 when we played SF4 and you used Gouken?

When playing someone on my buddy list, i create a first to 3 lobby about.. 95% of the time.
Unlike offline, when a match ends, you have to go back to char select screen and reload even if you choose the same chars. Saves time really - esp for you, since you always use the same char :p

What do you find bad about first to 3 when it's a 2 person lobby?

2 person lobby - first to 3
3 person lobby - first to 3 if you know them both, otherwise first to 2
4 person lobby - must know them all, and all 3 must be good to watch, otherwise no ty!

Oh Im just saying that first to 3 takes longer for people who are spectating who want to play. Shorter matches = more matches for all :)

AND YES! Why couldnt they implement a replay option for online 2 player matches similar to offline? (I.e. to have the next match immediately) that would save SO much time.

the ultras in sf3 were more of the normal style you would expect to see in a sf game , ie a short sweet execution of 10 or so hits lasting a few seconds and were generally harder to build up and to use.
the sf4 version is based on revenge, which is just silly....the whole point of aquiring an ultra was through successful attacks/defense and not just through sitting there..... then when someone does use it , most of them take about half an hour to finish (slight exaggeration) as capcom insists you must watch is 2.5 graphics engine.

and your right the game has way to many characters and id expect the only reason their in is to try and justify re-releasing the game at retail and not as a dlc as somehow in the space of a few months capcom went from saying a few new characters to having 20,000 new ones in the game (slight exaggeration again)

I can't argue with that frankly. All fair comments.

If SSF4 was released as DLC, you'd be downloading a DVD.
There were way too many changes to release as DLC, and even though it was a full release, it wasn't at full price (not sure how much SF4 cost on release, basing this on stuff i've read)

Your Cammy is good, you just need to practice your links and stop doing random/wake up dp's.

I really liked how after you did the spiral arrow, after i blocked, you didn't mash out dp.

Most cammys mash out dp after a blocked spirral and use the lag to beat my throw or reversal, so it was good to see you use offline tactics.

rav, can I play you on Saturday?

I'll have asmall window in the evening when I can play, and I really need to work on my sim matchup.

Cool, no problem mate.

Might be busy in the evening though, so just let me know what time you're free and we'll play.

Only managed that one game with you before, so it'll be good to get a few more in

Harder to build up? Hardly, you sit in a corner and press fierce punch and boom you start building meter. It's basically the same as the super meter in SSFIV except you can build it from a normal attack.
But yes, I guess that is slightly harder than getting hit in order to build it up.

As for being harder to use again I disagree, pretty much every super art in SFIII can be cancelled from a normal attack. That's easier to land than most ultra combos.
SFIII is pretty much dead though so people constantly bringing it up and comparing it to IV is totally dumb, move on.

You just make bad points really...as for the character thing I'm pretty sure Capcom settled on 9-10 characters very early on and that's what we got.

ST/HDR spanks both games. :D

Was some good games last night. Hehe in one of the games versus you Sim it was right close and I got so tense, all my fingers stopped working just about. It was like Blade Runner, I felt I needed to put a nail through my hand to loosen them up :D

The wakeup DP is something I'm actively trying to reduce/stop. As for links I've been giving it 10 mins here and there practicing them. I really just need to concentrate on them for an hour or two until i've got them down.

I'll be on tonight if anyone is around just fling me an invite.
