Widely available red wine?

I normally get my wine from Sainsbury's but I can't be arsed walking for 20 minutes to buy a bottle. There are a couple of cornershops near me that have red wine; will any of it be drinkable? Are there any widely available brands that are worth a go (something cheap, £5-£10)?

I'm not great with the names but Shiraz, Cotes du Rhone, Rioja, I think, but I'll drink anything that doesn't taste like **** or paint stripper.

Generally speaking anything over a fiver will be perfectly adequate for quaffing.

If you have favourite brands stick with them, the cheaper bottles from the big names like Wolf Blass, Lindermans and Jacobs Creek are generally ok.

Those names are all fine really, mass produced average quality wine. It won't be amazing, but it'll be OK.
Avoid Merlot, Bordeaux and Rioja at the cheap end of the spectrum as you'll be disappointed.

Wolf Blass would be my suggested of the cheap brands though.

Hardy's Stamp or Turning Leaf are both normally pretty reliable wines.

Have had some reasonable Wolf Blass also.

I see those names a lot but have never tried them. Anything from these brands that you'd recommend?

Generally I'd say they were much of a muchness, if you've got a favoured grape variety e.g. shiraz (since I see you've mentioned that) then try one of theirs with that variety. Riojas as said aren't often good at the cheaper end of the market from what I've found so maybe save them for when you've got more choice and a slightly higher budget.

I'd be in favour of just experimenting to see what you like and what is available. I'm quite fond of a nice temperanillo if I can find one though.

I'd suggest something from Southern Australia but what do i know. :D

Settled on this bottle for £6.50 :

Not bad once it had a chance to breathe.
