'New' car advice

You have a 10k watch?

And you felt the need to tell up this? :p

Dont knock the expensive watches, we get a good living out of them :)

There are many reasons I want to buy a car. I don't understand why there is so much negatvity here.

Yes part of me wants to spend a certain amount so I can have a better car then others I know. But I freely admit this and this is vain but only a small part of the reasoning behind any car choice i make.

If the vain aspect wasn't important we would all drive around in crap cars and not expensive car. Even 10k is stupidly expensive to spend on a car for a lot of people.

I will keep it shiny and polished of course but this won't be the reason I buy it. I enjoy driving and the finer things in life. So ofcourse i want something that looks good, we all do!

I am just learning about cars now and ideas for what I could reasonably spend.

Performance is important to me but most of my driving will be in town but none the less I want it to be fast and handle well.

I can't be more honest or candid here. I just don't see why some people here are reacting the way they are?

I know the question is very vague, but to my mind you want a "nice" car with some cachet that suits your image. For that reason, go to the dealers of the following marques and see what you like the look of and take it for a test drive:

Audi
BMW
Mercedes
Jaguar
Land Rover
Lexus
Maserati
Nissan (For the GTR only)
Porsche

Taking the criteria £20K-£50K and less than five years old, most of these manufacturers make a decent car. You can get more exotic but older (Bentley GT, Astons, F360 etc,) and more left field (Corvette, TVR) but I would stick with the above manufacturers. When you've seen a few you like, come back here and post your findings and perhaps we can help advise which are better than others or what else might be appropriate given what tickled your fancy.

And for what its worth I'd be getting a Porsche 911 C2S of the 997 variety for this money I think, or possibly a BMW M6.

I was in a similar position a few months ago, commuting into London by train and therefore only do about 3k ish per year. But I wanted a project and something fun to work and play with without spending the world on it so I could maitain my quality of life (as women and London are £££££ :D).

Although it is totally different I bough a DC2 Type-R. Probably the last thing you would consider and clearly not the type of car you are wanting, but never the less something to enjoy driving very limited miles in and to learn from as a project car.

Don't waste £50k on a car for such limited mileage there are many many cars for an awful lot less that will satisy your vain needs in spadefuls and would be enviable to most people out there. Just think of something like an E39 M5, E46 M3, Tvr T350/cerbera/tamora, Audi RS4, Boxter/Cayman, Toyota Aygo, Vette C5 etc etc.

It's the school holidays, the OP is nonsensical and is coming up with the most arbitrary of figures and reasoning. Why is anyone offering advice until this guy proves himself a bit? Surely there have been enough of these kind of posts over the years now for people to at least need a tiny bit of credibility from someone before wasting effort on them.

It is not difficult to at least prove you aren't a 15 year old kid.

It amazes me that even now, after the internet and BS'ers have been around for so long, people dont question a guy who comes along with

Sup guys I have a vauxhal astra spec me a car for £50k, I only do 4k miles a year but running costs concern me and my £50k. I am really into cars but have no idea what so ever in terms of what I want can you suggest anything under the sun. Did I mention my expensive watch?

Personally rather than blowing 50k on a car and living with my mum and dad, id much rather spend say, 10k on a nice car and start saving towards living on my own. Cant be good for when you offer to invite the ladies in for a coffee that you have to tell her not to wake your mum :D
