Dr. Kay Segler, BMW M GmbH's Managing Director, confirms the 1-Series M and Turbo M5

But it does have an incredibility linear powerband that a turbocharged car will almost certainly struggle to match. I know the advances in variable vain turbochargers and the like have help to reduce "lag" but I'm sceptical that'll ever be completely eliminated.

Have you seen the torque curve for the x35i?

Given the unique nature of even just the manifold on the S63 engine, a design so unique for reducing turbo lag that BMW have had it patented, I realy don't think lag will be something the M5 has to worry about.

What?

They are great drivers cars. That doesnt mean nothing else can be better

That's the thing I disagree with, they are not great drivers cars, they are better than some other cars like a 1.2 corsa, sure, but far from great drivers cars, unlike an M3 which is a genuinely great drivers car.

One has to wonder how you make a 'genuinely great drivers car' out of what you obviously consider to be a very poor base?

Last time we had this argument we discovered that your entire opinion on how great all BMW 'Sport' models are came from one possible drive of a 330i belonging to a mate of yours which, at first, you were not sure whether it was a Sport or not, but later (when it suited your argument) you were convinced it was. I would suggest it foolish to judge an entire lineup of cars from taking your mates for a spin around the block. I don't know about you but when I drive a mates car I hardly find out how much of a drivers car it is in the process.

Effectively, I put it to you that you've no idea what you are talking about and most of what you say is purely for effect :)

There is an inherent 'rightness' about the way a BMW is set up. It is this 'rightness' which leads itself to sensational cars like most of the M Power lineup, but of course (Given its the same fundamental car), traces of this rightness can be found across the range. Even something totally **** like a 116i has that little bit of magic about the way it handles.

Even when an M5 owner explained to you how similar the handling was between his M5 and a 530i Sport, given he has both, you refused to change your tune. If that wont do it, nothing will.

It was a fairly extensive "spin around the block" as, and I know you have taken this in because you have repeatedly and wrongly claimed it was filled with camping gear at the time, we had taken it to go camping in, therefore the roads were nigh on perfect for a fairly decent drive.

You bring up our recent face to face discussion yet that statement on the night was far from the end of it. I even had someone with what I assume is fairly extensive BMW knowledge as a past owner saying how he could easily see my opinion on the differences between my brief experiences with the 330i sport Vs the M3.

I understand what you are getting at with the inherent rightness of a BMW, yes, in comparison to a Vauxhall Corsa they are much much better set up. If all one had to compare was a 1.2 Corsa and a BMW 330i sport the BMW would be a real drivers car, but in comparison to genuine drivers cars, such as the M3, RX8 etc etc it falls very very flat, so much so that imo it should not be called a drivers car.

I once heard that Redbull are considering entering an RX8 into next years F1 Championship as it really is THAT good

I once heard some dude lost an argument really badly on which was better, an RX8 or a BMW 330i sport, and ever since then got really HYPERBOLIC about the comparison when ever it was bought up to avoid getting owned again.

You are fond of making up random terms, first we've got 'genuinelly sporting' and now 'performance driving' :D

Yea, im not really into car journalism, I know what im getting at and their is probably a term I should be useing but am not.

The RX8 would be a much better car to take out on a track or down a country road fast fun driving.
