Gulf Oil Spill ( LIVE FEED )

Even though the inverted funnel-like device was set over the leak late Thursday, crude continued to spew into the sea in the nation's worst oil spill. Engineers hoped to close several open vents on the cap throughout the day in the latest attempt to contain the oil.

close the valves on that the whole thing will shoot off

Time to start buying BP shares I reckon. :D
They have enough money to cover this & the clear up & the compo & still make profit next year.
When they do shares will rise & it will be cash in time.
Was thinking the same thing, was going to wait a bit though as a few more failures with trying to fit a cap over the top seem likely which'll knock a few more pounds off their share price.

BP Operations update:

Subsea operational update:

• The LMRP containment cap was connected to the Discoverer Enterprise and moved to stand-by position at approximately 6:00 am CDT on June 3.

• The riser was cut above the LMRP with shears at approximately 9:00 am CDT on June 3.

• The LMRP cap was placed on top of the LMRP at approximately 8:35 pm CDT on June 3.

• Gas first reached the Discoverer Enterprise at approximately 11:00 pm CDT on June 3; oil followed at approximately 11:10 pm CDT.

• Operations are progressing as planned; increasing the flow of oil and gas to the surface and reducing the amount entering the Gulf of Mexico.

Ah well, at least there is something on top of it and not just completely open...
Reading comments on news stories, and seeing the facebook groups, I actually feel like defending BP now. Many Americans seem to think this could only happen to BP, and they don't care because they're a foreign oil company, and only american oil companies should be allowed to drill in american waters. They seem to think that BP is deliberately not stopping the oil and could just stop it if they wanted to with some blu tack and a bit of crimping, but aren't because BP are evil foreigners who are only there to cause accidents that obviously none of the american oil companies could possibly cause.. There are others who want the US government to seize all BP assets and jail the executives, and never buy from BP again - obviously it's ok to fill you oversized SUV up as long as the petrol station isn't supplied by BP... I think this disaster just gives everyone else another reason to hate Americans.

What is Obama supposed to do exactly? Americans seem so angry at him.

He can't swim down and fix the cap on himself.

Yeah definately the American company was drilling for the oil anyway, seems they want their oil as long as it's not from there back garden. I dont remember much of an outcry when Hussain was burning millions of barrels of the stuff in Kuwait.

Also boycotting BP fuel is a bit silly. That's BP the company, not 'British Petroleum'. That name was dropped many years ago.

There is no reason for BP fuel is blended with BP crude products, oil is traded on an open market and refined by refinarys who then sell the gasoline to the highest bidder.

Infact I bet a lot of 'BP crude' is in other oil company forecourts anyway, it will have no impact on BP profits.

well yeah I guess its a success in that they now have something to sell......

that top hat thing is bobbing about like mad.

The cap was never actually expected to completely seal the well. It was expected to do just this, reduce the amount of oil coming out.

It's why they did this "last" as it was the wasn't going to be as effective as sealing the well completely with mud.

according to the animation and run through they did , they illustrated no leaks at all . they only leaks they did illustrate was from the valves which was always expected to be closed.
