Logitech Harmony Adapter for Playstation 3

I'm toying with buying a bd player to add to the WDTV live, or buying a ps3 and doing away with the WDTV live. I stream from my WHS.
But that means i'd also need to buy the IR station for the PS3 to get the harmony 555 to control it. So quite a bit more expense if i go for the PS3 + harmony station.

Whatchya fink?

I was thinking about doing tv live a BD player, yeah the ps3 is the more costly way to go but it would look so much better. + if you sold the tv live on the bay that would put some money to the cost for the ps3 etc!

Hmm...yeah i could bay it i guess, thanks for that.
Although....i was thinking of putting it into another room tbh.

 Ooooh....decision, decisions!

Get a PS3

BD playback,
Streaming
Games (The odd racing game is fun on a HUGE screen now and again)
Great DVD upscaler
Works with Harmony remotes.

Everything!

I bought my harmony one a couple of months back with the ps3 adaptor included.

Absolutely love it, works perfectly! Control my Xbox, PS3, Receiver, TV, Sky HD and HTPC (XBMC) all with one remote :D.

Not had one issue yet, spent a good hour setting it up but that's it!

Sorry to the OP for hijacking the thread for a moment but I was pondering investing in a harmony, as it is I have a remote for the Sony TV, Sony Amp, WD TV Gen 2 and 360 (For DVD's etc). Would a harmony be able to control all or most of those?

Yes, all of them.

Yup,

You have what is known as activities, I have "Watch TV", "Play Xbox360", "Watch Blu-Ray" and "Use HTPC".

Pressing one of them turns on everything you need, switches it to the correct channel and you're good to go, no need to do anything yourself :). It will also turn off everything you don't require.

Promising :p one more little question, does it have anything in the way of presets, say a 'Movie' preset, I hit the on button and I can program it to turn on the TV, Amp and WD at once?

Get one

You will wonder how you lived your life before you got it:p;)

From memory it plugs into the USB port of the PS3 and has an external power supply to allow it to be used - pity the USB couldnt provide that though.

I'm going to have to get hold of one too methinks :)

one of the problems I can see with this is sometimes when you decide to play a game on the PS3 but it needs a update. So if you had the harmony and ps3 adapter if you then chose a different activity whilst wanting the ps3 to stay on and download the update the harmony would in effect turn the ps3 of if you decided to say watch tv, watch a dvd.

cannot see a away around that.

But then I dont have one yet (ps3) adapter.

Very minor problem considering the amount of updates that come out and the length of time they take, is it worth watching TV when it's updating?

You could also if you really wanted to watch TV before playing a game manually control each device. Leaving the PS3 ON

For me that would mean changing input on AV amp to SKY HD and trurning the Sky HD box on.

Two buttons on the harmony one. :p

How does it actually turn the PS3 off, does it just mimic going into the system menu (i.e. holding the PS button down)? If so, it wouldn't matter, you can't get to that menu while the console is doing an update anyway.

No it doesn't, It's more like holding the actual power button on the console.

If you press devices on your remote you can control single devices that way. So a couple extra button presses if a update is out and you are all set.

It's a none issue.
