How is it overpriced? It's more than twice the res, has an IPS panel with superior colours, 117% colour gamut, and way better viewing angles.
You guys obviously dont care about quality.
No 24" monitor compares to the Dell 3008. Nearly all 24" monitors are TN cr*p or PVA / MVA. You dont know what you're missing in terms of image quality and colour reproduction, everything looks so much better on the 3008. I'd choose quality over quantity any day.

Whilst I agree that many around here don't care about quality, let alone understand what some may need such monitors for (As so wonderfully demonstrated by PraxxtorCruel's narrow response to your post), there are plenty of 24" monitors better than the Dell 3008 in every other possible arena bar size, especially colour reproduction and general image quality.
It should also be noted that just because it can display 1.07 billion colours makes it in no way a good argument for those wanting colour accuracy. It doesn't matter how many colours it can display if they're all wrong.
When quality costs too much, you can't help but feel it's a total rip-off. You want to dish out £1000+ just to see a few more brighter colours, it's your choice. You want your games to be a bit brighter/bigger resolution clearer picture go ahead. Nowhere in my book does those benefits justify spending £1000 on just a monitor. You say, some don't know what they are used for, well I hate to break it to you, but the widest audience of buyers IS probably the ones that have no use for them. As the ones who actually need it, don't get it, as they cannot weigh the benefits of spending that amount of cash.
Again, way to miss the point. You've narrowed it down to games, just like most other people here. It's not about what you or they use them for, it's about understanding peoples requirements from monitors differ. If you're going to asses a monitors worth on your personal uses and bank balance, then that's fine, but don't think it applies to everyone else.
There are a reason manufacturers like Eizo, Quato etc exist, why they create the products they do, why the charge the price they do, and more importantly why people buy them. If you think a monitor serves only to display web pages and the latest games I'm afraid you're very much mistaken. Your view is narrow. You're writing this monitor off because it doesn't suit you, not because it might actually be a bad/overpriced screen.
I cannot be bothered to type you a bullet/numbered list of things those monitors are used for. Once again I was saying most of the Ultra dell monitors are bought by people whom do not need it.
Whilst I may agree with the basic point you are making I can also see that people buy certain monitors for differnet reasons. I for example use my monitor for a variety of purposes including editing photos where colour accuracy is important. I also however play games on occasions on the very same monitor, along with all the general purpose other uses.
I must admit that your attitude may seem a bit arrogant to some - afterall there is nothing wrong with wanting good quality gear - if you can afford it - great, if not, don't begrudge others the choice, be it right or wrong for whatever reasons, it is an individual choice.

I have not begrudged anyones choice, all I did was just state my opinion of this product. Come of your high horses and accept someone else does not see the light of shedding over a grand for a monitor that will be used for general computing. I might seem a little arrogant? Well of course, when you lot all jump on the bandwagon of 'IPS superiority'. I have not said that the Dell monitor is not a quality piece of tec, all I have stated is that I believe it is not worth £1000+ and I shall stick to that belief. Damn that kinda money could well be on your way to a new ikea kitchen.
I was certainly not on my high horse as you put it at all, and you are very welcome to your oppinion, the same as anybody else on here. All I was pointing out was that your oppinion could come accross as a bit arrogant by dismissing other people choosing monitors in this price bracket irrespective of whether they need or use it to it fullest capabilities. I agree that it is a large sum of money to drop on a monitor, and it probably is not something I would do, as much as I would like to - but it is never the less nice to have the option - as I am sure it is for others. At the end of the day no offence meant or taken.

If you're really interested, plenty of PC Worlds carry the current iMac range, including the 27" version (has the same panel as the Dell U2711, only with a glossy surface and LED backlight).Maybe I should go see an IPS panel for myself, but who would have a £1000 screen on display for viewing. Not pc world for sure.

Personally I wouldn't pay £1000 for a monitor either, but if someone else can afford it, and they get sufficient pleasure out of owning it, it may well be worth £1000 to them, regardless of what they actually use it for. It's a bit pointless to talk about the "worth" of a consumer good as if it were a measurable intrinsic quality, when in reality it can never be anything other than a subjective judgement.
