hyde park water fight

Watching that second clip I agree with the police turning up even more. What started as a nice waterfight seems to have been invaded by yobs just wanting to cause trouble.

Or possibly just local people (who don't like police anyway) getting the hump when the Scotland Yard decided an appropriate response to a bit of fun in the park is to issue a section 60 and start searching people at random.

We really have sleep-walked into a police state haven't we when people can't even have fun without the police using it as an excuse to get their stop and search numbers up....

Or maybe the people that want a MASS water fight shouldn't choose such a public place where, although unintentionally, innocent members of the public who went to the park to enjoy a relaxing day (silly them) don't get to choose if they are involved.

That water fight is a basic <insert English equivalent of Breach of the Peace> and the police were right to make a prescence. Bearing in mind they had to close Oxford St.

As for the fud in the white shorts - he should have got a face full of CS/PAVA for his troubles... Only unfortunate that there were bystanders around which could have been contaminated which meant they didnt....

From what the BBC report says most were there having fun throwing water & only a few were kicking off.
There is No mention anywhere of how great socially it is for so many Random people to get together to have some Fun.
The police responce is to pull people randomly & search them, Why ???
There next responce to water bombs is Batons.
Who exactly do the Police work for these days ???

I'm not sure that a waterfight counts as a breach of the Peace, but with so many people in one place it is fair that they are close by but searching people and abusing police powers is likely to irritate people.

I am happy for them to act passively and take out individual trouble makers but sometimes it seems they make things worse.

With so much going on, even if you are there you can't really say whose fault it was. Probably a combination of over zealous policing and groups of trouble makers.

Why can't a waterfight just be for fun, it shouldn't have to be like this.

Just saw the clip on youtube, you will always find a muppet in the blazing heat, I think the sun has gone to his head.
It's a shame the police dog didn't do more than try and crawl up him....I think those dogs should be replaced with pitbul terriers - unleash them and see the crowds all disperse in seconds :) I mean, who would want to confront a staffordshire bull terrier! :D
